Gen-seven Mustang is finally in Oz! More money, more fun (Ford Mustang GT Fastback 2024 Review)

It’s been quite a wait but finally the seventh-generation Mustang has landed in Australia.

With its sharper styling, hotter 5.0-litre naturally aspirated V8, keener chassis and newfound tricks - including the Drift Brake trickery - the new S650 looks set to improve the storied breed nicely. But pricing is up and desirable options aren’t cheap either.

Here we review the MY24.5 GT Fastback automatic, kicking off at $81,990 before on-roads. Our test car adds an appearance pack, primo paint and MagneRide adaptive suspension which all contributed to a near-$100K price tag on the road.

Is it much better than the old S550? And how does it stack up for the dough? Chasing Cars’ contributor Dylan Campbell take the new ‘Stang for a spin on track, on road and on the skidpan to find out.

Great review

I had a 2017 GT 6 speed for 7 years that I absolutely loved, and just moved on to a 2024 GT 10 speed with Magnaride

It’s an evolution vs revolution but for me it just ticks so many boxes in so many aspects, my 2017 as much as I loved it was a poor 1st cousin that I still love, but would prefer to drive this one every time

I love it!

Enjoyed the review, well done👍 however, you must stop saying $80k, this figure is irrelevant and misleading as we cannot buy it for $80k, it’s more like $97k, yes, you may say that it varies between states and dealers..but an approximate drive away cost is $97k would be very helpful.

Thanks for the review. I’ve noticed that most American reviews have criticized the lack of steering feel over the previous model, but nothing was mentioned to support that here… did they do an AU tune for that here? Also, would be good to hear about how the 6-Speed manual is to drive. Thanks

$90k plus car, no front parking sensor, no 360 camera, no powered tailgate, no HUD, they didn't even reverse the centre console so the hand brake and cup holders are on the wrong side (similar to the S550), I get V8, but at that price point I'd expect a little more...

An almost 20% increase in price is kinda a kick in the teeth tbh..

Im sorry, but I had the previous model to this. I think my car is just better looking. Interior especially. The new model just looks bawdy.

I have a 2019 Last gen GT and whilst I’ve seen and sat in the new GT & Dark Horse for 30k extra than what I paid for mine and less torque I just don’t think it offers enough to justify that big of a price jump. I still love it but at such a large price jump it just isn’t worth upgrading. I hope they sell a tonne of them though long live the V8.

I bought the 2018 Bullitt, which will see me out. I just can’t take the LCD screens & or the so called new look headlights. Each to their own.

I previously owned a 2019 mustang gt before starting a family and trading it in. Always planned to get anther but with these price increases after a few options and lct your hivering 100k. For that price I would rather get BMW M340i

Price aside nice upgrades and very glad we can buy it here from Ford. This will be much cheaper and easier to maintain than German coupes for longer term ownership.

So many people would have no idea how good we had it. But still not bad for a two door V8 I think in this day and age

The black calipers would indicate this is a non-Magnaride car (with magnaride cars having red calipers), so why was it tested as having them? I drove a magnaride car at a local dealer and compared it to a non-magnaride car, and I can say it preferred the handling without! My thoughts only.

How did you get the appearance pack with the magneride suspension?

$88, 990 in 2017 is worth $108, 276.50 today.

Inflation catches at lot of people out and this reviewer made some unfortunate comparisons as a result.
