How to update the software on your LG Smart TV

For LG TV owners in Australia, learn how to update the software on your LG Smart TV. Note that in this video, we refer to software as 'firmware', but technically software is the correct expression. Throughout the LG world, the two terms are used interchangeably.

To all those having trouble updating apps on lg tv's, my only solution was to plug in a mouse and click on the "some apps are available for update" banner when it comes up when started or just recently turned on.


1. Plug in a mouse.
I used a wireless mouse that the keyboard malfunctioned but the mouse still worked. I'm pretty sure almost any USB mouse will do the trick.
2. When you see the elliptical LG arrow on the tv screen, power cycle the television.
3. Watch closely for the notification that says "some apps are available for update". When you see it, move the mouse up there and click on the little arrow, not the "X".


This should activate the apps updater app and list the specific apps that have updates available.


Problem solved
P.S. still disappointed in LG Electronics.

No Web Engine update for LG TV 2016/2017 (bought 2017) > it makes your web browser obsolete (video players etc) one year later! SHAMEFUL!!!
Last FW update is Feb 2018 and since: nothing! certainly the last one for this model, I guess...
So consider that "LG Smart TV" are "smart" only for one year, then they become useless because "previous LG TV will not get last webOS update" > means "no update of web engine" (Chromium 53 and follow).
And obviously, it will be the same in 2020 for 2018/2019

Says 'no update available' and yet I keep getting 'flag' saying 'your browser will be unsupported shortly' on You Tube. Can't get any sense out of LG either.

I have the EF9500 one of the early oled with 3D, paid around 3200 at Best buy and I don't recall ever getting an update. I check at least once a month and Zippo nothing!

If the terms and conditions aren't loading, try turning on 'initialisation of premium' in settings. Reboot the tv, install recent system updates, then turn on the initialisation of premium AGAIN. It turns itself off for some reason. Now all my apps run perfect.

got ongoing issue with os on my 49UH650V .the 'my channels' i add ie the ones I use frequently keep disappearing .called LG a few times say it's a known software issue, told to reset TV and issue still remains.called again LG aware of issue and will release updated software fix some point in the future.mmmm not holding my breath as tv is now just past a year old .

Concerning smart LG's "UNABLE TO LOAD USER AGREEMENTS", I even called the LG hotline. The tech could not help me and gave up after about an hour of trying different unsuccessful strategies. Will never buy another LG TV.

My LG TV also says "UNABLE TO LOAD USER AGREEMENTS" and I cannot access the WEB. My smart Vizio TV does not require "USER AGREEMENTS" and accesses the WEB beautifully. Why does LG require "USER AGREEMENTS"???? .
