The whole prioritization of shareholders over everything else is ruining more than just gaming. Private companies should be the norm in all the industries.

I just buy 3DFX. Cheaper, best API and no fake frames 😅

Used works for me... Not gonna pay the inflated prices.

I don't think this argument holds up when you consider nvidia and amd have the option of not discontinuing older cards made on much much less costly nodes. For example, Nvidia could continue selling 30 series made on samsung's 8nm node indefinitely without missing out on any ai revenue, but instead they discontinued most of them.

UK prices are outta control. Retailers keep adding £20 to the cards every few days. Msrp is meant to be £569 but cards are going for £700-800 its insane

The fact of the matter is 8 years old gpu is still perfectly capable, so everyone should stick to their gpu for much longer

the TSMC bottleneck has been known for over 5 years now.

The thing is, even with Nvidia's price hikes, they're still making a huge profit by selling RTX 5090's at $2000. PNY and Palit are selling their 5090's at $2250 and that makes them decent profits. What's effed up is other AIB's being scummy. Asus, MSI and Gigabyte are hiking their prices way higher than PNY and Palit. They think its ok to charge an extra 600 bucks on top of what PNY and Palit are charging. This is pure greed and they should be boycotted accordingly.

Yesterday, I got Sapphire Pulse 9070 XT from Yodobashi camera in Akiba. I didn't think that they will have it in-store. Just visited on the way home and saw one on the display.

My advice to anyone buying is....buy the best gpu you can buy at the best price and don't look back. I fully believe the prices will never go down, like pretty much every cycle in the last decade.

The demand for compute is only growing, and certain tech are even held back due to the lack of compute available. Unless manufacturing booms soon, it'll be a while before demand is met.

Makes you wonder why Nvidia even made the 5000 series at all.

There's nothing wrong with using older nodes - especially for midrange.
The 1080ti was on 16nm. They're still very good performers.
Given the price increase of the cutting edge vs older, there's got to be a point where for a midrange Eg ##60 core is cheaper to produce per performance.
I can understand why nvidia aren't pursuing this path, but AMDs alleged plan is to retake market share by targeting midrange.
I could see solid cards in mass quantities on Intel 7 or Samsung 8.
I doubt they'd be more expensive at retail once production ramped than a 1060 was before the mining price mess. So, call it 350usd retail and mass availability.

Yes, they will clock a bit slower than the high end, and use a bit more power than otherwise, but I still think it's a market share winning play.

End of the day, older nodes are always cheaper because of demand, they're paid off, and they're in the "milk it dry" stage of the amortisation schedule.

It's simple: Supply vs demand.
More supply = lower prices. Less supply = higher prices.
More demand = higher prices. Less demand = lower prices.

an issue i never see mentioned is that these cards and chips are still using the 4nm node.
This is why it's an issue.
Tsmc has been making this particular chip for 4 years now, and they have probably fine tuned the process.
Reason this is an issue is that there are less chips that do not meet spec.

Nvidia and amd want to sell to data center as this is where they make the most profit.
Generally, if a chip doesn't meet spec for the super expensive chips, they are used for whatever they meet spec for. (cpu, gpu)
My thought is that since the process has probably been perfected at this point, there are less and less chips that can be used for amd and nvidia to make gaming gpu chips.

I am high and i do not have a source.
This is just my own view on the matter.

My advice: upgrade other parts of your PC! Keyboard, mouse, monitor, surround sound, etc! And also, you have a PC! Play UT 2004! Titanfall 2! Etc! Those run like butter on a GTX 970!

Why techtubers never mention the elephant in the room (ASML) when talking about chips production? Are they not allowed to talk about the monopoly facts? My solution would be, to force the anti monopoly institutions to do their job and split ASML and/or force to release technology of lithography machines to other manufacturers. So many talks, but never to the point.
