I am Chinese and this isn’t my first time hearing this theory, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this is actually the case. We supposedly had advanced and superior technology compared to the northern tribes. And I always wonder how the Mongols and Manchus beat us on horses while we Han Chinese had heavy machinery. Unless they were actually more advanced then we were.

The wall was built and rebuilt multiple times. In multiple sections. At one point they used it as a quarry and took rocks away from it. Imagine drawing a border, building a fence thousands of miles away from your capital. Of course the line / border moves back and forth.

It definitely wasn’t to keep the mongols out of china as claimed because the mongol empire conquered everywhere like lightning and were only strong for 80. After the death of Kublah Khan the empire fragmented for the last 80 years of its existence. Why would you keep building something that would take at least 100 years if not twice that long if the enemy had already crossed over the border 50 years earlier. It’s like the rabbit proof fence in Australia. You stop once defeated and make another plan. Tartaria must have been a force to reckon with to build such a huge structure. Tartarians were peaceful people and that’s why they fell. They were Ayrian and their God was Ahura Mazda who had only 3 commandments of Good Thoughts make you say Good Words to do Good Deeds and the world was peaceful. That’s why the world has kept Iran on sanctions for 43 years to destroy the last part of tartaria. Iran means “I am Ayrian.” They won’t open the Chinese tombs because they opened 3 and they contained mummies of 6 foot 6 red headed people wearing Persian tartan and silks. It messes with the known history. Everyone went against them taking new gods that believe in Armageddon, my way or the highway. We should step back in time and listen to Ahura Mazda the only God and true creator to put peace above the worship of their huge head. Abraham would turn in his grave knowing what people do in his name. Abraham’s God was also Ahura Mazda because the bible says “I will get my friend Cyrus king of Persia to release the Israelites from captivity in 70 years.” The only God Cyrus knew was Ahura Mazda and it was he who drew up the first human rights amendment and built the second temple for Jews. I can see that none of you have ever opend a medieval history book, let me explain.
1) the side that face outer china is the fortified one, because the battlements on the left side helped the nomadic tribes to climb them. If you watch closely on the photo the right side has square holes, that make possible to fire an arrow without being exposed.
2) the Tatarian name is just a name of a region that was given by the europeans that hasn't discovered the world yet, so they made theories on how the world is. for example Cristopher Columbus was in search of Catai (China) and he randomly discovered america.
3) it's not rare that the fortifications where also used against their people, if you look at the Italians castles their fortified part faced the city (ex. neaples castles and castello sforzesco of Milan), that's because they were made by the lords to protect themselves from the revolts. but this is not the case of China.
4) the wall isolated the nomadic tribes from the commercial routes... if this "tartarian empire" existed, than why they wuold isolate themselves from the commercial routes that could enrich them? also if you look on the oriental part of russia and mongolia, before the last two centuries there were no major cities, so... if the wall wasn't built by the chinese, then what was it supposed to protect? poor nomadic villages?
5) along the great wall you can see tablets on the wall that describe it's construction and the name of the families that created them, in fact every tower takes the name of the family that built it.
6) if the wall was "tartarian" then it wuold mean that there where "tartarian" soldiers to protect it, and how do you give them food? because if you look on the chinese side near the wall, there where villages that gave food to the chinese soldiers that guarded it, and also you can find ancient workshops and fournaces that made the bricks. but if you look on the "tartarian" side there is NOTHING literally NOTHING.
7) if the "tartarian" where able to build this wall, than why there are no reperts of ancient cities? because to build that you need tons of people, the tecnologies, and an efficient supply sistem THAT THE CHINESE HAD.
PLEASE stop giving credits to these bullshits and read a book, because you only embarass yourself

Just as thought. Wouldn't the side to keep mongolians out be damaged most? Maybe that's why that side doesn't look great.

But we quite litteraly have hundreds of documents of Emperor Qin Shi Huang demanding this building, it is rebuilt facing China because china over time mannaged to conquer land up to the Haxi corridor thus the wall became an interior defense against the Jurchens which often used scaling tactics to get over defenses, thus taller walls on the outside prevented them scaling it.

I'm just looking at a screensaver of the great wall and you can see a giant arch built into the lower part. There's all trees and dirt up the sides but you can clearly see larger stones making an arch shape in the background. That's why I searched alternative wall theories and found this. Interesting
