Well I read the stuff here and elsewhere, tried alternative devices, tried a different cable no progress.
it's fixed now it matters what order you turn on the device and the TV. Changed that and all up and working!

The first time I got the error I followed the instructions until it indicated it was testing the HDMI cable then worked. Each time afterwards I did nothing but follow the screen prompts until it got to testing HHDMI cable and it then started working. (about six times now.)
