Cheap Steak Vs Expensive Steak - Who Wins?

The steak dinner is one of the most popular meals in the UK along with fish and chips and a full english breakfast, but what is the difference between a cheap version and an expensive version? I head inside 2 of the biggest UK restaurant chains Wetherspoon and Miller and Carter to try out their steak dinners to see who is best!

Ex Wetherspoons kitchen manager here. Steaks are always fresh, cooked to order on the chargrill. McCain chips, McCain beer battered onion rings. Tomatoes are chargrilled and the fresh mushrooms are cooked with garlic butter in the fast ovens. Good value food. I’ve eaten at Miller & Carter a good few times. It is pricey, but makes a nice treat. I have had bad experiences though, steak was so cold once the butter didn’t melt, that soon got sent back. The onion loaf is tasty, as is the wedge salad with the long clawson blue cheese. The bone marrow sauce is amazing also. If you sign up with Miller & Carter you get the occasional special offer as well, especially around your birthday 🎂

I've only ever had breakfast at Wetherspoons, but now I think I'll try them for a steak dinner. That one looked really nice. Their prices are better than a lot of other restaurants as well.

Wetherspoons is brilliant. Get a lot of food and it’s very good. And that steak looked amazing for its price.
Miller and Carters, can’t go wrong with that, always amazing and a great variety of steaks. Glad you enjoyed.

Steak is one of the few things Wetherspoons can't microwave. I remember an article saying they buy their steaks from the same supplier Jamie Oliver uses for his high end places. Nice review.

This is the first time I've ever heard of miller and Carter being described as upmarket lol... Its very much a midrange chain steakhouse. Better than spoons by far, but nowhere near upmarket! Still quite a funny video, fun to watch

Miller and Carter is AMAZING but the Spoons one looked fine considering it was a third of the price. Though usually when I've had a Spoons steak they haven't been as good as that one looked! I would also argue for a third option; Aldi's Specially Selected Rib-eye and cook it at home 😀

I liked the strange lettuce dish at the second place and the envronment, but the Wetherspoons looked perfectly adequate. I'd probably give them both a try.

I liked the idea of the salad, minimum prep. A chef could knock out loads of meals in the course of an evening. M&C look like they really know what they are doing. All of it looked excellent. Thanks 4 the review.

Miller & Carter is significantly better but obviously it’s quite expensive. I’d still choose that and just go less often though. Whetherspoons in my town is basically a crack den with burnt food.

Both look amazing!! But I Love Miller and Carter based on taste and experience, but didn’t expect Weatherspoons to be so good!!
