Using recorded music, bubbles, live guitar, rhythm, sign language and an iPad, music therapist Ryan Judd calms a girl with autism and helps her work on her communication skills. Thanks to Ryan for his footage of this 2016 session, beginning at 2:23. "Her sensory system doesn't experience the world in the same way ours does," Ryan says. "Many times it experiences the world in a way that's overwhelming and disorganized. She has all these sights and smells and sounds coming at her, and it can be very challenging and frustrating and upsetting to be able to process all that information. And when she came into my treatment room that day, that's where she was at. She was in that flight-or-fight state because she had just too much thrown at her that day." ... "I think that's one of the beautiful things about music therapy. It can help organize the sensory system of our clients who are feeling disorganized."
