The most exciting of all topics, car insurance. This is my car insurance explained video where I try to go through the detail of car insurance and explain roughly how it works in basic terms. #carinsurance

Cheap car insurance is not always the best, it's still possible to get a good deal on car insurance but you need to shop around with more than just the car insurance comparison sites.

By learning the key rating factors it may help you assess your insurance risk before you choose your next car. The most important thing is that you always tell the truth at the first time of asking! the insurance companies now use big data (massive data actually) so fraudsters will get rumbled, early and often. Insurance scams do still happen and many of them are accidental so be careful with your answers and make sure you fully understand any clauses or conditions applied to your policy based on the answers you have given.

The best car insurance companies are the ones that give you good honest advice, carefully explain any clauses or conditions in your policy, and don't charge you the earth in admin fees. I strongly suggest using a good insurance broker to give yourself that extra layer of protection if things go wrong.

Cheap car insurance for new drivers is extremely difficult to find buy black box technology options certainly can help to get the price down. Be very wary or trying to do a policy for your son or daughter in your own name and saying that you're the main driver, many people come unstuck with this as the insurance company are selling you a policy, not car insurance for tennagers so they can get very awkward of there is a claim. As i say several times in this video, just be honest and shop around a lot. The best car insurance is the one that covers you and pays out without an issue if the worst happens. There are some great deals online so shop around and get the best price you can but make sure you understand your cover and any clauses or conditions that apply.

All very good tips thanks.
One thing which annoys me is NCD protection. There's a new(ish) bit of small print now which states that although you have NCD protection, you may still pay more for your insurance in future in the event of a claim. This is because regardless of fault, your risk rating increases in the event of an accident. There is also an onus placed on you to report an accident even if you don't intend to claim. So if, for example you reverse into a neighbour's car but you settle the matter between yourselves (you pay him directly for the repair) without informing your insurance company you're still in breach of their T's & C's. They need to know so they can re-evaluate your risk factor. Another unfair tact is they "steal" your NCD if you don't insure a car for over two years. I had built up over 30 yrs of NCD (only 9 were counted) because I used my motorcycle for three years as transport. I didn't own a car of my own during this time BUT I was a named driver on my girlfriends car and drove a company van several times per week. Although I could prove continuous driving experience throughout I lost all my NCD. I'm pretty sure this is skating a thin line (mixed metaphor) legally by the insurance industry and probably wouldn't stand up in some countries.

Aaahh yes… car insurance: the reason I don’t massively want a car again 😖. I won’t bore you with the details, but insurance firms are vile: that’s as polite as I can be 😬!
Your vid was really good though 👍 and much nicer than insurance companies 🤬🤯😡😠😩🖕…

I don't even get insurance in the uk why do we have to pay to drive a car like in other country only the car is insured not the person on the car so in other places u can just hop in any friends car u want and dive like as a car enthusiasts I cant ever see me even having a British car because of insurance so confusing but I guess I can't do anything about it

One sided coin in favour of insurance companies. In Norway u pay a bond to the government and the car is insured and anyone can drive it. Claims are settled by the government. Insurance companies employ many people on excellent salaries totry to get out of every claim. They are in business purely for the money never heard a good story from anyone and I am 63. Motoring in the UK is just unpleasant now, cost, traffic, rubbish unreliable cars, fuel costs, and road repairs.

Are European licenses penalised? I’m in a weird situation- almost 7 years on license, clean record, no ncb (my country didn’t do this), just under 25 and my insurance was quite high on a leased car in 18E group

Is this commuting a new thing? I always thought that social domestic and pleasure covered everything.

How would they know that if you are doing more miles than what you put down when you insured yourself?

Please make sure you also add any points to you ongoing insurance. They will cancel insurance and not pay out. Had this recently 😬

Some offer discounts for having a dashcam no doubt it could save them a lot of money if the accident is recorded.

Ooh, and I've just got a quote for a 2013 Mercedes C200 and it's less than my 2016 Clio 1.5dci - who'd have thought?

Location of vehicle and how it's kept makes a big difference I was told Aberdeen was the cheapest place. Putting a female named driver on your policy reduced some people's premiums. When my father was elderly I told the insurance company I was the main driver so they reduced his premium!
