My 17 yo son passed his test. Insurance premiums are high for him, understandably. If I add myself as a named driver, the premium doubles in price even though I have a clean licence, maximum NCB, 34 years experience!... Why? And why does keeping the car in the driveway (rather than in the road) makes the premium go up, not down!!!? Very bizarre and counter-intuitive. Can you explain this? Much appreciate your content by the way :)

Thanks, great video. I'm a little confused about no claims discount protection. If it's protected then I can claim my policy will not be effected by my insurer. But what happens if I've claimed then at the end of the policy, change insurers. Do I then say I haven't claimed (because it was protected) or do I have to say I've claimed and therefore risk losing my discount even though it was "protected" ? Hope this makes sense and you can answer it please.
Thanks 👍

05:45 - I, and everyone I spoke to, thought we lost the entire NCB, and now that I think about it, that doesn't make sense, losign 2 years does. Was a nice surprise when I took out a claim and thought I lost it all ^^

Hi, my son is taking his driving test soon, and I've been trying to get insurance for him when passes his test.
Been phoning around, and can't even get a quote, because they reckon we live in a high risk area.
What can I do to get him insured?

The thing that gets me, if I wanted to make the smallest of changes, they charge an administration fee. Let's say I had a car that failed it's mot, or broken down not usable anymore, I go and find another, thry cant wait top say, oh theres an administration charge of in my case with esure, £25 and I feel that should be made ilegal. And prices go up even though I'm 51

Not all true, for instance if you leave your car parked away from home it’s actually cheaper than it’ll be on a driveway/garage

Protected no claims is utterly useless and it's a waste of money. If you have an accident sure enough that your amount of years, no claims will remain the same, but your premium will definitely 100 percent go up. And you're obliged to tell him whether or not you've had an accident in the last five years. For protected no claims to work they would have to make it so you are not obliged to tell him that you had an accident.

05:42: not true. if you have 9year NCB and you make just one claim in the 10th year - your NCB is reduced to flipping 3years.
