Novak Djokovic has arguably one of the best wide tennis forehands in the world. In this tennis lesson, Jeff Salzenstein shares three key elements to master the wide forehand. He breaks down the footwork, technique, and balance required to create incredible angles on your crosscourt tennis forehand. Jeff reveals the fundamentals and trade secrets from the pro tour, so that you can accelerate your improvement and level up your tennis game

Chapters:

1:32 Tennis Forehand Footwork
3:25 Tennis Forehand Balance
6:00 Tennis Forehand Technique

The way you move to the ball is essential. Jeff suggests making a strong cross over move after the split step and loading your outside leg to get behind the ball efficiently. This requires lower body and core strength; therefore, focus on your off court training to master this specific type of tennis footwork pattern.

Next, you want to develop incredible balance at the end of the shot. You’ll finish on a wide base with your chest facing towards the side fence. You’ll rotate your upper body and let your shoulder come around like Novak Djokovic does on his forehand.

If you want to truly master this shot, consider practicing shadow strokes consistently off the court where you focus on finishing in an athletic position and keeping a neutral spine on your wide tennis forehand.

SUPERB video, thanks. A shot I've struggled with. Watched your video and put straight to good effect.

Great tip as usual. I find that my foot work is naturally much better when I hold the raquet high moving to the wide forehand. As you demonstrate, your footwork is off when you approach a wide forehand with a raquet held low resulting in an armed ball. I have been working on correcting this myself.

Awesome tips, first move is very important, only 2 steps are needed to get to the ball out wide from the middle of court

I absolutely love any content modeling Novak's game, maybe you can do his world-class backhand next? Thanks for the content, Jeff!

I talked to Oscar Wegner yesterday (we've talked before). He is one of the very few phony people I've met in tennis instruction. I told him that the reason these instructors tend to be phony is because they are afraid; that is afraid of reprisals from tennis organizations who pull their strings (a tiny tennis pun) if they entertain new ideas and innovations to their sport. Wegner told me that he has an engineering background and that he's not afraid to learn some new ideas (and some old ideas) in the physics of tennis. Finally, some good news.
