Koko was born in captivity. Also the whole world who knew about Koko sent her BASKETS of kittens lol. She has also told how she wanted to be a mother. Have her own baby and sadly couldn't because of her circumstances but Koko was a very articulate individual.

Her adopted brother Michael was not born in captivity. He witnessed his mother being murdered and butchered for meat. He literally told them how he became captive and was actually quite fond of his caretakers and was friends with a dog named Apple
