As a Scandinavian, do you realise how badly you have to behave for the Danes to imprison you and not be willing to release you?

He's not "trapped ", he is awaiting due process as is usual in most legal systems.

Ok, so I’m from Denmark and that’s not the story we are told.

The two tourists decided to cancel the ride mid way, and when that popped up on the Uber drivers app he asked them why? They said they had the wrong address on the app and if the uber driver could drive them to the right address. But since they canceled mid ride, he lost the money from the beginning of the ride, he said no and the tourists got out of the car.

The driver went after them and said they had to pay or else he would call the police, then the tourists attacked the driver.

The police in Denmark will not detain or arrest you if you did nothing wrong. They either have a lot eye witnesses or/and video evidence.

I’m American, and feel that the Danish driver is probably telling the truth. Don’t go to another country if you don’t know how to behave in a civilized manner, and follow the customs, and laws of another country.

Danish Prison probably has a 4.3 on TripAdvisor.

"trapped in Denmark"... if you know how Danish prisons work, you'd consider it an extended vacation

If a foreign national was involved in an assault in the USA, would it be expected that the foreign national would be allowed to return to their country? I don't think so. Same rules apply.

As a tourist you would have to make an absolute fool of yourself or be violent for the police to even consider detaining you in a Nordic country. This guy is lying through his teeth.

Studying in copenhagen as an intl student was so eye opening for me. They’re incredibly lawful ppl who will look at u in disgust if u cause any public disturbance. That’s all

The fact the uber driver had to go to the hospital speaks volumes about how he was treated. These spoiled enitled kids need to learn their lesson in th form of punishment of the home country they where traveling in. The witnesses obviously all saw something different from what the boys reported and the fact they put the poor driver in the hospital is horrendous.

I am an American that has ties to Denmark, I also work at a media company here in the US. When this story first "broke" I was very confused why we were running it. Now that I hear you talking about it, I am furious this is even considered news. Saying he is now "stuck" in Denmark... please

Obey the rules. Don't drink beyond your capacity. Be courteous at all time. Not rules for foreign travel only but for LIFE.

Why are Americans always surprised when other countries have different laws and legal systems than the USA?

As a danish person I’m so confused by the framing of this case in the US media and now specifically this video. Why are Americans acting like Denmark and basically any other country than them, is some kind of hub for corrupt police and horrible prisons who have set out to destroy the lives of some young American boys. Like wtf? He is being treated like any other person danish or not would be if they were suspected of a crime. The US would do exactly the same if this had happened in America. Do you think you´re the only country with a legal system? The whole purpose about the rule of law is to protect both the accuser and the accused. If the accused is correct then he deserves a thorough investigation to exonerate himself. The same way the accuser if he is correct deserves a thorough investigation to hold the people responsible accountable. Also danish prisons are honestly not something to be scared about, they are really nice.

Denmark is one of the countries in the world with the lowest corruption's scores. It's very lawful. The American guy is not telling the truth, and he assaulted the Uber driver. Behaviors have consequences. He was ready to flee the country.
