This music video caused a lot of controversy when it was released. Just a month earlier Madonna debuted her song Like A Prayer in the Pepsi commercial where this was the first time an artist debuted a song in a commercial. The commercial was part of an endorsement and sponsorship by Pepsi to also sponsor her upcoming world tour to promote the album Like A Prayer. The commercial was basically about Madonna watching her 8th birthday party on film being screened. She and her 8 year old self switch places and Madonna the adult self visits her elementary Catholic school, a street scene and a black church. It was a very innocent commercial.
But after a month the single and the music video for Like A Prayer are released. Because of the use of religious iconography, her getting a stigmata and her dancing in front of the burning crosses, the American religious conservatives were very upset and they contacted Pepsi to force them to cancel their contract with Madonna and stop airing their Madonna's Make A Wish commercial otherwise they would threaten to boycott the company's products and their chains of subsidiaries like Kentucky Fried Chicken and, Pizza Hut. Pepsi decided to cancel their contract and tour sponsorship with Madonna but she was able to get a ton of publicity from this "controversy" with her canceled Pepsi contract and she was able to keep her $5 million dollars that was part of the contract. She most likely used that money to finance and produce her next music video for Express Yourself.
Did you notice that the St. Martin De Porres' cage is the same spot as the jail where the wrongly accused black man was jailed?
You should react to her songs from the very beginning with her first single Everybody in order for you to appreciate her evolution as an artist. And react to all of her live performances from her concerts, charity concerts, TV and award shows please.

This is from her 4th record, you might want to start from the beginning to see how she progressed. She normally has/had blonde hair and sang mostly pop/dance songs but also has some pretty amazing ballads. She might not be your taste though and that’s okay. Madonna was a phenomenon over 30 years ago, times are different now.
