You repeated the same reason of being outside and free 6 times, and then told us to socialize them, which applies to quite literally every single breed of dog period. Alaskan malamutes are dubbed the gentle giant for a reason. Raise them like you would any other dog that you want to be kind and gentle around people and they will be. Do what you should be doing with every single other breed of dog and you'll be fine. You want a REAL list of downsides to a malamute? They got a THICK double coat, so they shed a lot and they can get hot. There you go. 2 reasons not to get a MALAMUTE. Not 6 of the exact same reason that all still applies to every breed and a 7th that still applies to every breed.

I got my alaskin malamute 1 year ago he was 8 weeks old. A few people told me not to get him as my first dog and after the year has passed I personally beleive he is the best 1st time dog. I live in a small 2 bedroom apartment and he's not allowed in the kitchen, bedrooms, or bathroom. Here's everything I do to maintain him:

A fan next to his cage, if it's hot it's on
-cage is in a corner with shade

10 min everyday with a deshedding vaccum
- I got on Amazon ($60) when he blows his coat you'll get lots of hair out, but normally a hairball a day and it combs his hair so he stays fluffy and doesn't get tangled

- 1 hour walk daily outside before bed, he sleeps 11 hours afterwards.

-2 meals a day, 3 cups of kibble for breakfast and boiled chicken or beef 1lb of it for lunch. I have a gallon of water I fill up in the morning and give him water before food and then fill up his bowl afterwards, drinks about half a gallon a day.

- bathroom: poops twice daily, one time in the morning and one time on his walk.

- when it's hot, to keep him cool I get an icecube tray and fill it up with treats like 5 kibble per cube and then water and freeze it. Give him a cube here and there.

-cleaning, I take him to a dog wash, costs 14 dollars for 30 minutes. Takes the full 30 to wash him entirely, and then I blow-dry him for like 40 minutes with a pet blow dryer I bought. I wash him once every month and I try to push it up to a month and a half. If he does get dirty, like early on when he was being potty trained then I wash him immediately afterwards.

That's it, he's a very quiet dog he silently howls when he's home alone
Other dogs are intimidated by him and want to fight him, from what I gather it's bc he's not neutered, he's 90 lbs, and his tails always up. He himself is a scary cat, hides behind humans and literally trusts all humans so if you want a guard dog... yeah malamutes are cats. The worst I've ever seen from him is one time a dog was growling at him and he got infront of me and growled back, I pulled back his collar and he stopped.

Either I hit the jackpot and got the nicest malamute or they are very easy dogs to have.

I love my 2 Mals! they need to be a major part of your day! mine need around 1.5 hours of walks a day( at least) they are the best dogs i have ever had and worth every second, unbelievably smart and sweet! I knew what I was signing up for. if you are on the fence or have any physical concerns be warned, these dogs can absolutely pull you off your feet on leash faster then you can think, and its going to happen. if you don't feel like you could put your 110+ lb dog down onto the ground by the scruff while he's dead set on a squirrel, do not get a malamute. if a mals for you, you already know though, and fucking do it

My beautiful Alaskan malamute Simba died this week. He was just short of 15. He loved children. He had a kind soul. Please if you get an Alaskan malamute do not give them up. So many get abandoned because they are hard to train. My Simba literally saved my other dog when he was attacked by a pack of dogs. He was brave strong but not aggressive. He just scared the dogs off like a boss.

My Mal is 12.5 years old and is the best dog I have ever had. While the video info is good but the actual video should have Malamutes in it, having some Huskies just doesn't right.

I have a big 6yo male Malamute.
Positives: Hes awesome! Hes playful and is full of personality. Hes the perfect dog for an active owner/family. Hes great with people and most dogs. His job is to guard my property. He looks amazing and people love him wherever he goes! He loves the water and is smart and was easy to train.
Downsides: he sheds like crazy all summer. He will challenge some other large male dogs to fight. He eats alot. He was a destructive puppy. Most importantly - only get a Malamute if you know how to raise, control and handle a big dog. Otherwise he will not respect you which can lead to all sorts of challenges.

I have a malamute my brother has one and I know a breeder whose been breeding since 96. Malamutes are bums and like staying inside. He has some great points but I’ve never seen a rambunctious malamute. This sounds more like he’s describing a husky. My boy will play with a ball and come on walks with me but at the dog park not much going on with mine or my brothers dog. The huskies however are all over the place.

Why did you use a picture of a husky at 1:45?

I had my mally for almost 11 years and boy was it a wild ride lol. She was a big, heavy and sturdy dog and one of the strongest dogs I've ever had. She needed a strong leader from day one however with constant training and mental stimulation she happily lived with cats, other dogs, birds and rabbits but when she fought with her sister it was nasty and luckily that was in rare occasions. She started to calm down around 7 years old xx

This info is not really accurate. We have three Mals. They are EASY to train, they are super intelligent. Love both in doors and outdoors. We live in a small house and they live to be lazy and relax after a good run outside. So friendly and great with kids. No more work then any other puppy.
It’s great your trying to educate but first you have some huskies in there! Mals do NOT have blue eyes and are bigger then huskies.

Funny my first dog is a malamute because I wanted an active dog she was very active from 6 to 23 months but once she hit 2, she’s calmed downed a lot, I would like her to be more active but I’m fine, she’s a perfect dog and yes she lives in an apartment. Doesn’t chew up anything when I go to work, doesn’t destroy anything but her toys. Bottom line is with any dog, you put in the time and effort and you’ll be fine. I take her to the dog park and she gets along with every dog and person to a fault.

Good thing none of these no items apply to me lol. I just brought my new puppy home last night and she is already a joy. Super laid back but bouncy when she wasn’t to be and quiet unless she wants to go outside and she’s only 9 weeks old! I’ve met several malamutes in my life and they’ve all been such good dogs it’s amazing how well tempered they are for their size and lineage.

I honestly disagree- I just rescued a husky malamute and he is the best dog ever. Nothing like a husky not whining a lot. He does have seperatation anxiety but I am working on that with our trainer. He is about 2 years old. My elderly aunt moved in with me and while I am at work he is very calm and relaxed with her. Once i get home he knows its potty time then play time for an hour. He to play with me and does best learning while playing. I trained him to sit before he is fed and he is so smart. When i take him to my neighbors house (she has a siberian husky) and when he sees that she has treats he automatically sits for her. When i take him for walks he automatically sits for me to put his leash on. He is a big boy but he is so gentle doesnt snatch treats off my hand and gently takes them off my hand. He is super friendly with everyone and just wants to play and given attention to. He is currerntly side eyeing me right now as i type this but he has learned that if he patiently waits, he will get play time and cuddles. I did have an issue with him barking when he wanted to play but now he is just vocal and howls when i get home and arhhrraww what huskies do. He is very trainable but I am working on his distraction because when he is in play mode with other dogs he tends to not listen to all his commands. to be fair I have only had him for 2.5 weeks and I just love him so much. If you love a dog that is always down to play with you and if you are an active social person this si the dog for you. He is also great around kids

I just got a husky/malamute puppy 2 weeks ago and he is definitely a handful, but I’m seeing progress with the nipping and potty training.

I would say strong leader is a must. I help out at a malamute rescue for a while. The number one kinds people I saw turning their dogs over for was lack of being a strong leader for them.

They will test your patience. In the early years but if you have the good amount of patience and your willing to put in the effort. They are amazing.
