My dad and his brothers had to hide in the woods of Texas to keep from being taken to a Boarding School. I am proud Cherokee. Let's hope this promise is kept and not broken like Horrific President W Bush and Sec of Interior Gayle Norton broke one more treaty with the Tribes. Keep your word and make us all proud.

To those who have never read or heard about this horrific time of boarding schools, try to discover this history of violence against tribes of Indian ancestry. This formal apology by the President of the United States to acknowledge the historical injustice and the injuries formally is a vital action of President Biden.

I'm not an American. I'm here because I watched '1923' and learned about this ugly past of US history. Was always fascinated with the culture and history of the indigenous people of America. But this was truly a sad period.

My stepfather was educated at the Jones Academy Indian school in Oklahoma and his sister was at Chilocco Indian School in Oklahoma.
I heard the horror stories about the abuse the endured and torture. They was not even allowed to speak their native language, and if they did they was beaten.

As an indigenous person. Hearing this be acknowledged, of course late, but hearing it acknowledged it important. Yes, Free Palestine. I have to give Biden credit for the accountability he is showing for the actions of the USA practices on the Native Nation. It's the only way to go forward. It doesn't erase it, but it helps to go forward. Hope they will keep their promise to the Indigenous. It was about time. We, as a nation, need to make our government officials look like the tapestry that we are. Can't knock Biden for this healing gesture.

Of course, the next logical step now is reparations, for both Native and Black Americans. Here's a simple, painless idea for how that could happen:

1) A small percentage of every real estate transaction, say 0.25%, is split and paid equally into 2 funds.
2) The funds will be managed by a Council of Native American Representives and by a Council of Black American Representatives, repectively.
3) They can do whatever they want with the money.
4) The Councils will recieve reparations for 100 years.
5) Both councils can be made subject to rules, taxes and oversight set forth by the US Federal goverment.
5-a) Tax incentives may be offered for reparations earmarked for the purchase of land for conservation, community developement and education.

And now if the President could just find the time to speak to the necessity of a Two State Solution with the very same gusto as his apology, I think that would also be helpful.
