As a Canadian native and the daughter/granddaughter of the residential school system and a 60's Scoop survivor, I'm in tears.

I hope former President Jimmy Carter has been informed this day and speech occurred. He stood for fairness and justice. He didn't do everything in his presidency but he deserves to know of this progress. Thank you CBS for carrying this speech and event.

OMG, I have a sister (died of covid in 2021)! Her husband and 4 children live on the Gila River Reservation. She worked for the Gila River Office. Now her daughter works there. I'm so happy, POTUS Biden went there!!

Thank you president Biden for your passionate apology and words from your heart to the tribes ! We hope more people will become aware of this terrible time when Native children and parents were forced to go to these schools, who suffered so much.

Yes, finally, thank you Joe Biden! Thank you Native Americans for leading the way in America with your beautiful heart and culture and your grace with all you were put through. The trauma and devastation from this horrible time in history. I have seen by working with many native cultures in the PNW Washington and living on a reservation when 10 years old. The native america culture is the most spiritual, beautiful, resilient people and culture in the world!

Not proud of what the American Government did to our country's Indigenous people. Proud of our President for bringing this history of horrors to the forefront. You must acknowledge history, teach history or we are destined to repeat it. We need to speak and teach more about propaganda and how republicans are using it like Hitler did to persuade good people to hate fellow human beings, neighbors, and friends. ✌🏼🇺🇲❤️🤍💙

Thank you, Mr. President for apologizing to the Native American people for the injustices committed to them by the US government in the past. May the healing process begin, and God bless the Tribal nations of this great country. 🕊🙏🇺🇲 Now, let's build their communities especially those who in this day and age still have no running water and electricity and utilities!

This is needed if you actually mean what you say. Action talks.
1. Administer funding for indigenous languages revitalization schools and programs. Because our languages were taken from generations.
2. Rescind the metals of honor for the massacre at wounded knee.
3. Grant immediate executive clemency for boarding school survivor Leonard Peltier.
4. Pass the U.S.truth and healing commission bill to ensure funding for the relatives who survived the boarding schools.
5. Instruct the bureau of Indian Education to conduct a full scale investigation into the failure of the tuba city boarding school system and support demands by parents and students.

Grateful to be living in the time where our President formally apologized to Native Americans for all the harm we inflicted on their people during the course of the country's history. I pray that Native American people can forgive us and begin healing what our previous governments denied ever happened. I also pray that our country stops denying any actions of our history and always places value on honesty, respect and humility. Thank you for your humility, President Biden.
