EPISODE DESCRIPTION:
I am excited to introduce you to the brilliant work of Richard Schwartz Ph.D., the founder of Internal Family Systems therapy or IFS. Dr. Schwartz has been developing and refining the IFS model for over 40 years and has helped thousands of individuals achieve deep healing and greater well-being. During our conversation, Dr. Schwartz actually guides me through an IFS process and connects me with a deeply wounded part of myself, also known as an exile. I get vulnerable with the hopes of helping you see how powerful and transformative this work can be.

In this episode, we talk about Richard’s new book, You Are the One You’ve Been Waiting For: Applying Internal Family Systems to Intimate Relationships. We discuss the societal and cultural obstacles to intimacy and how IFS can lead to the healing and wholeness necessary to experience true intimacy. Rather than place the pressure on our partner to be the healers and caretakers of our wounded selves, we learn to become our own caretakers and therefore show up as a whole, integrated human in our relationships. IFS therapy is based on the premise that each person has a "system" of different internal parts, each with its own thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. These parts can be healthy and adaptive, or they can be wounded, hurt, and problematic. The goal of IFS therapy is to help clients develop a healthy relationship with these different parts, cultivate compassion and empathy for them, and integrate them into a more cohesive, harmonious whole. IFS helps people achieve greater self-awareness, self-compassion, and emotional balance, leading to greater resilience, improved relationships, and an overall sense of wholeness and well-being. IFS therapy has been used to successfully treat a wide range of mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and addiction. Have a listen and learn how to heal and hold your exiled parts, while embracing and calming your managers and protectors.

I’m always amazed at Dr Schwartz’s generous spirit in an online world of “that’s behind the paywall” or “to discover that, but the book” and he is just out here, helping people and teaching others how to help themselves. I deeply admire this person.

Awesome!
This info shared here is the a portion of what makes up the ‘Compassion Key.’
I’m in the midst of my certification and self work.
I’ve learned that Unacknowledged/invalidated traumas run in the background of all of our subconscious minds. By locating the broken part by following the emotion and sending compassionate phrases revealing that earlier broken or wounded part of us, then tracing back in time & then sending compassion phrases unlocks this, permanently.
I’ve had instantaneous results within myself and patients.
It is truly a miracle!

Thankyou once again Kelly, I completely felt for you and your vulnerability. I'm going through IFS with a therapist at the moment. Like you, I was in floods of tears yesterday with my frightened, fearful, traumatised mini me ❤️. Much love

I loved this! Thank you so much Kelly for allowing yourself to be vulnerable in a public way. It was a true testimony of the genuine nature of who you really are. I am a recently retired clinical psychologist and discovered IFS just before I retired and read Dick Schwartz 'No Bad Parts' which made so much sense to my own therapeutic experience. I recently published my own book, 'You and Your Relationship Journey' which also connects with some of the concepts portrayed in this video, so that was very encouraging! Thanks again, Wendy J

Hi Kelly. This was an amazing interview and the experience that you opened yourself to really illustrated in present time how internal family systems works. It's interesting that it would probably have been a very different interview if your preparation night had gone differently. But your transparency and willingness to be authentic was what made it so powerful. I haven't listened to any of your interviews before and I certainly will in the future.

Good job Kelly...thank you for sharing his work❤️I just did that kind of Parts therapy with my daughter today and a therapist...it’s not easy to do but if you can slow down and take time it’s so beneficial and healing

You-turn and speaking for parts works! But is there more we can do in IFS, fundamentally, than work with our own parts?

Thanks for sharing your personal experience, Kelly, and helping spread IFS to the world! 🥳
