The last Toy Story…for now. Unless you include Lightyear which clearly I do since I did all these movies in preparation for it! So go watch Lightyear, people seem to like it. But first watch this video about Toy Story 4, because I liked it. Here's everything right with Toy Story 4!

Started Toy Story as a child, ended as a young adult, got to see the improvements of animation, characters get introduced and develop, was one hell of a journey

There's this one detail I think deserves a couple of wins and that's the different opening lines when the two girls pull Gabby Gabby's string.

When Harmony pulls the string, Gabby says "I'm Gabby Gabby and I love you", but when the lost girl pulls it, she opens with "I'm Gabby Gabby. Will you be my friend?". And I think there's an important difference between the two.

With Harmony, her approach comes off as desperate. Because she IS desperate. Gabby wants desperately to be loved, and feels like this is her only shot, so she wants to go all out. But love isn't just something that should be forced upon people. You can't just walk up to a stranger and say "Hi. I love you." They'll think you're crazy and reject you.

With the lost girl, she's no longer being desperate. She's not thinking about being loved. She's thinking about making that girl feel safe, and her opening line reflects that. So she opens with "Will you be my friend?" because it's more inviting and more reassuring to a person who's lost and scared, than opening with "I love you." At that moment, Gabby finally was being selfless and learned what it means to be a toy: "It's not about being played with, it's about being there for a kid when they need you."

4 is very personal for me. It came out when I was facing a really deep depression from a former job feeling like I didn't matter in the world. But seeing Woody find his place in the world made me really emotional. I left the movie crying but in a happy way. So when people hate on this movie, I get it but man, I feel defensive of this one.

I think Toy Story 4 really exemplified Woody’s growth. In the first one, he is so terrified of being a lost toy that he weeps in the parking lot, so to get to the point where he becomes a lost toy and decides to use that selflessly is huge.

One thing that initially annoyed me was how Bonnie didn't keep her word to look after Andy's toys. But then again, she IS only about five, so it wouldn't have the same significance to her that it would to other people.

In Harmony, the little girl's, mind, she wasn't knowingly hurting anyone. She just saw a doll she didn't want to play with, not realising that she was crushing Gabby's spirits.

1. the rain at the start is breathtaking
2. I LIKE the "Villain" isn't really evil. She just wants ONE MORE SHOT... and after... shes alright giving it back. She even asks so often nicely. Shes just desperate not evil

honestly the only thing i really take problem with regarding 4 is how they treat buzz as a character

like, it's still buzz - but it just feels as if his character development and intelligence reverted back a movie or two for the sake of making him comic relief (something he already was, making it even more puzzling as to why they did him so dirty)

Everything Great About The Prince of Egypt would be a massive win.

Love when you point out small details in these animated films they make them all the more astounding on how they’re made

Such an interesting "cherry on top"/"bonus DLC" kind of movie.
It gave us some extra goodness and an ultimate/final closure. Such a unique work of film. :)

Fun fact: the rain sequence took up 60% of Pixar’s budget and took the longest to render

Woody didn’t just leave his friends. He found a new purpose in life and realizes that he doesn’t have to satisfy just one child and also found a new opportunity.

Buzz: To infinity
Woody: And beyond
Best way to end a Toy Story movie

When Buzz said "She'll be okay" I knew exactly what he was going to say after and immediately sobbed

I always love describing Toy Story 4 to people as the solution to the When She Loved Me sequence in Toy Story 2. In the respect that it provides an option and tells the audience that heartbreak happens but the thing to do is to keep going and never look back.

in my honest opinion i feel most people dislike the movie main fact being that they separated the gang. But you as the other movies taught us about being how different is good, learning to forgive, making new friends, sticking together, letting go of your fears, growing up this one taught us how some people are in your life just for a while so we must cherish the moment we had before they go.

God I love this movie. I thought I wouldn't care about it the first time watching, but half way through the movie I was already super invested. Such a great way to end Woody's story.

I didn’t like the movie as much as the first three but I have to give credit to Pixar’s animators here. Still the most impressive looking animated movie I’ve seen.

I saw Toy Story 1 and 2 as a kid a year younger than Andy, finished Toy Story 3 when I was an older teenager about to go to college, and saw Toy Story 4 as an adult. It felt so /right/ to see this outcome, because it ties up every little cliffhanger left by the end of TS3 and wraps it up for us adults who grew up with the series, while opening up a new universe for the kids and newcomers to the franchise. I remember that during the screening of TS3 a lot of kids and their parents walkd out of the theatre bc the kids didnt understand the plot (TS3 was definitely done for the millenials who grew up with the two previous movies), but with TS4 everyone was excited and all the kids wanted more. It's one of the reasons they retconned Bo-Beep's personality and relationship with Woody, in TS1 to 3 they were almost acting like a married couple while in TS4 she calls him her "boyfriend" and have this cutesy flirting that seems less mature and more about lovebirds finding each other after a long time. That is good, TS4 is like a rite of passage from us, adults, to the kids who can enjoy new adventures with Woody and Bo-Beep.
