I did something like this once. I waited and said “is that how you normally speak to people?” And they responded with an “excuse me?!” So I once again waited and instead of rephrasing or panicking, I just repeated “is that how your normally speak to people?” They were silent for a few seconds before apologizing and restating their concerns in a much more polite way.

I like pulling "i cant understand you when youre so emotional" on the yellers. Men tend to have hilarious reactions

My favorite response to rudeness is to keep a neutral expression and say “What makes you say that?” in a politely inquisitive tone. This puts them on the spot to explain WHY they said that, which they usually can’t. 😂

My favorite example is when I worked in a restaurant and this lady was being extremely rude to me. I literally just asked very "genuinely"... "are you alright??" (I seemed very concerned)... she literally stopped, apologized, and said that she was having a bad day with hospital issues.
Can't believe it worked so well ❤

My husband had a coworker like this and people just started to treat him like a toddler 'thank you for your input, now let's move on shall we?'

I've never met someone who was rude to this extent and actually WAITED for a reply. It's usually either said in a endless string of comments or they walk away.

I just had this lingering vengeful thought of sitting and silence, and then going, "...Wanna try that again?"

My favourite was my mother to a new personnel manager (she’s a lawyer he’s a paralegal aka: mom outranks him, he didn’t know that) he acted rude and my mother just went “I’ll let it slide because you’re new here but that is not how we talk to each other or clients”

Being upfront and confrontational yet professional really sends a message. People who are rude have either never been confronted or truely are crazy! Confront people at your own risk

Oh!! I need this! I have recently encountered the rude management type person and have been trying to find a good but neutral way to push back. I’m using this!!

Im a medical receptionist and often get yelled at for things that have nothing to do with me eg a prescription that was written wrong or a referral that has been sent to a specialist and that specialist hasn't contacted the patient yet. My response is often to leave a pause while i gather my composure. I then say to them something along the lines of 'i didnt cause your problem but i am here to help fix it. When you can speak to me respectfully then i can help you.' if they continue yelling il tell them im going to end the call but they can call back when theyre feeling calmer. The trick is to finish all sentences regardless of when or how the other person interrupts. It often makes them feel silly for yelling and means i have the right to hang up since ive properly informed them why the conversation is getting cut short.

I usually ask “are you okay?” Or “are we good?” Because if I’m being polite there’s no need to be rude to me.

I'm not even of working age yet I still love watching your useful vids, as someone with terrible social anxiety this seems really helpful! Especially the "You got this" at the end really helps even though I don't have an interview or anything 💀

I feel like just looking at them in stunned silence is good too. Gives you time to calm down and think of a response, and makes them think or worry about your reply.

lol I’m often told I have a “golden retriever” personality; a generally happy go lucky friendly and easy to approach kinda attitude. I smile a lot and can seem air headed but I can guarantee you I’m listening.
I use this trick often but my favorite part is when I suddenly drop the smile and pause just a little longer than you did. Most people get real quiet real quick 😂 and then I go back to smiling like nothing ever happened usually it confuses the crap outta of them enough to get their composure back.
But other than that it really depends on context. If something is seriously important and it was messed up then they have every right to be upset but I can’t help if we fight. And then there are fanatics; just can’t reason with a fanatic better off just giving them what they want( as long as it’s not too much) or ignoring them until they had enough and go away.

Good 'ol sarcasm works here. "Yes. That's the only thing I've worked on for two weeks."

You can also ask "pardon?" Then they will think about their answer and say something else, it works with anyone too!
