I think it's fairly simple, if your employees aren't getting bonuses don't take a bonus yourself. Otherwise be prepared for an onslaught of quiet-quitters.

People aren't motivated by their boss getting a bonus; they're motivated by getting a bonus themselves. Why is this so hard for these CEOs to understand? If you want your people to perform better, you need to pay for it or they'll do the bare minimum

Damn... Say what you want about unions but I'm so happy to be in a unionized trade. I've been a union worker for so long that I sometimes actually forget bosses like these actually exist... It gives me chills honestly. In no way shape or form can I imagine myself working for somebody like this or in a company where someone is allowed to speak to me like this... Not in a million years... If my current boss would speak to me this way, their job would be in jeopardy and there'd be a whole case built about the situation.

They say this, knowing that they're in complete control (in this case, giving out bonuses). But they don't want you to call them out on it, so they pull Stoicism to gaslight you.
