How Disney Princesses Should Have Looked

These Disney Princess Characters Should Have Looked Different.

We love Disney Princess fashion, but did you know that the ladies’ outfits aren’t entirely historically accurate? We’re comparing Disney vs source material to show you what the Princess outfits should have looked like. That involves going all the way back to the 14th century for Princess Aurora — we want to know if you love her new hairdo. If you love Princess Jasmine’s crop top, then you’ll be shocked to see what she should be wearing instead. As for Princess Ariel, her perfectly puffed up pink sleeves when she dines with Eric aren’t actually puffy enough. Just wait ‘til you see how extra Princess Belle’s accessories and decorations are. More was most certainly more in 18th century France! When it comes to Mulan’s outfit, there are some fascinating revelations when you ask a historian — particularly about her jewelry.

With all of these five Princesses we’ve had a whole lot of fun creating animated versions of their historically accurate outfits, hair and makeup. Just think of it as a throwback retro makeover. Take a look at all of these before and after fashion fixes to see how they should have looked, and be sure to let us know in the comments section whether you prefer these characters in their original outfits, or if you like the animated Disney makeover we’ve given them. Hit that subscribe button to be the first to know when we release new videos on TheThings, and hit that thumbs up button to show us how much you love the Disney Princesses. Thanks for watching!

Honestly as a middle eastern it always bothered me how revealing jasmine’s outfit was since princess didn’t dress like this before but rather dancers.

Possibly, a historically accurate French gown for Belle would be too elaborate to animate well. Especially with late 80's/ early 90's technology.

I like Disney Princesses' original looks. My favorite Disney Princess is Mulan b/c she is not born royal or did not marry royalty. Instead, the Emperor of China acknowledges her heroic deeds by giving her a position In his office but Mulan refuses so instead the Emperor of China gives a medal to Mulan to give to her parents so they know their daughter's heroic deeds.

I think Mulan and Jasmine might have looked better, but just no to Belle, Auora, and Ariel

No offense to The Things, but as someone who loves historical fashion, I saw inaccuracies in these reimagined outfits.

The princess didn't want to draw attention to theirselves, I've noticed that in the movies. I think Disney did a good job with their outfits.

I was fine with Belle's historic make over until they put that white weird looking thing on her head. I lost interest for the rest of the video in that second.
But I must be one of those who don't really pay attention to historical accuracies on anything, since i feel just fine with Disney's version and feel weird looking at this historically accurate versions of these characters.

To be honest I would rather have the original version of Disney princesses then what they have shown on the video

Me when they start with bell:*inhale* don't use corsets to Define STAYS! And corsets weren't invented in the 17th century! She wouldn't have worn a corset!
Edit: for Aurora's look, Split Front skirts weren't a thing until the Elizabethan Era! Sleeping Beauty takes place in 1301, Split Front Skirts became a thing in 1558, but since Sleeping Beauty takes place in Germany, Split Front skirts NEVER became a thing in Germany, and Aurora's hair IS accurate, that is how women styled their hair in 14th century Germany
