While you won't be sporting the hammer and sickle any time soon, a dead countries series would be useful for context. Notably, USSR, Yugoslavia, and Czechoslovakia as examples given that their relationships with other countries were different from their modern successors.

Mackinac is pronounced Mackinaw (Yeah, Michigan place names are hardly ever pronounced the way they are spelled)

6:30 I’m also a 1/32 Romanov, since my maternal grandfather’s maternal grandmother was a daughter of Tsar Aleksandr II. By the time of The October Revolution, that particular branch of the family must have been already settled in Eastern Finland, where my grandfather was born, thereby slipping ”under the radar”, if you will.

The c at the end of Mackinac is not pronounced as a c but as a w so it’s pronounced as Mackinaw (which is actually the name of the city by Mackinac Island). It’s funny we use the pronunciation of Mackinac as a gauge of how “Michigan” someone is!

Thanks for mentioning the script! It's actually pronounced mwan-GWE-go. That's actually one of the primary reasons behind the invention of the script, to have a system that natively encodes a number of phonetic aspects that the Latin Alphabet cannot natively support.
