If the Nintendo Kawaii is the size of a keychain, they should have called it the Wiichain

The issue with alcohol and the switch is that the OLED models have a slight "soft-touch" texture to them and that part is more fragile than the actual plastic underneath.

I used sandpaper to clean my system, can't believe it ruined it

I just use a lightly damp microfiber towel. Pretty much for everything electronic. The dampness just helps the towel soften residue and collect dust better

The best thing to clean your electronics baby wipes, dirt cheap and they work

Why on earth would you use 90% rubbing alcohol? You gotta use a much more mild cleaning solution. That fact Nintendo recommends 70% just shows this is people not knowing what they’re doing.

Running alcohol is very aggressive solution, and is completely unnecessary for plastics and consoles.

Simple water and a pea size drop of dish soap is more than sufficient.

If my electronics can't take a 90+ percent alcohol massage, is it really worth anything? This news kinda rubs me the wrong way

I always like using eye glasses cleaning wipes to clean electric screens.

Do people really clean the outside of their devices with rubbing alcohol? I just wipe my switch down with a little windex and a microfiber cloth. That Switch looked like it was scrubbed with a magic eraser.

I've been cleaning my Switch and all accessories in the dishwasher for years, has never caused an issue.

So, rubbing alcohol ruins plastic and advertising costs money… talk about a slow news day.

Isopropyl alcohol thats 90% and above is excellent for cleaning... board level components. As it has a high alcohol content and little water it will evaporate rapidly, and not leave mineral residue making it very useful for cleaning sensitive components. Very little warm water and a tiny anount of dishsoap on a microfiber cloth will take care of oils/dirt for the case. Screen w/o a protector id would only use a little distilled water on a microfiber to then wipe, or some lcd wipes. Personally I do use special edition consoles / accessories. My daily driver for xbox is the halo infinite series x, and controller. Yeah it depreciates, but im pretty sure I'll be able to sell it for at least what i paid for and thats good enough for me.

When you see the prices of getting a trailer up at one of these events it's no wonder everyone's taken the Nintendo Direct route.

Jeez you dragged that rubbing alcohol segment out.

"Don't use alcohol on your switch, use water instead."
There, fixed it for you.

I use 70% ethanol, and even that removes the paint off my yellow Nintendo switch lite. I work in an environment that requires I disinfect it constantly, in fact I specifically own that Switch for that, I don’t take it home. The yellow paint is so worn off it now looks pretty cool.

Thank you for reporting on the switch alcohol issue. I buy, clean, and refurbish consoles a lot and, while I mostly soak console shells in soapy water to clean, I do occasionally use alcohol to get any stubborn spots/stains out of the console shells - good to know I cant do that on switches.

At the height of the pandemic, we were wiping down all the workstations every day. Some plastics felt very gritty to the touch after an alcohol wipe.
