In 2012, the most mysterious mystery on the internet occurred when a strange picture of a butterfly was posted by an anonymous user on 4Chan. This mystery would be known as Cicada 3301 and it was a series of interconnected complex puzzles that was meant to seek out the most intelligent people in society.

It was a group formed to make online tools in order to breakdown privacy and to make all things only public which is why they only recruited the people who stuck all the way through till the end because those people wanted to know what was on the other side.

I thought that whole mystery had been somewhat concluded in that it was a project for creating a safe sharing space to leak information onto, but they wouldn’t let any of the people who solved the puzzles work together and it was a huge amount of free work they all had to do so it just kind of fizzled out…
