Rain Bird Residential Valve Troubleshooting: Using the Bleed Screw to Fix a Sprinkler Leak

This video shows how to use the valve bleed screw to solve a leaky sprinkler problem. Try this tip before replacing a residential valve that leaks.

Sometimes sprinklers continue to water a little even after the irrigation controller has turned off. One reason this could happen is if there is debris that has been caught in the valve and the valve can't close all the way. Using the bleed screw to open the valve all the way could flush the debris out and the sprinklers could shut off properly.

What if you do pull out the bleed screw all the way 😬???

Unfortunately, now the bleed screw drips and tightening it just stripped it. All plastic.

When valve is open, water sprays out from body of valve, no water from drip lines.

I wish this fixed it. Used the bleed screw and also popped off the top and the diaphragm and flushed out the system. Still leaking. 1 year old valve too!

I only get my sprinklers to work when I open bleed screw which means it bleeds as shown in the picture and then I get water in sprinklers

Im having trouble. My water sprinkler wont turn on if i dont looses the screw. What do you think could be the problem? Do i twist the solenoid all the way off and then unscrew it for the water to come manually? Really frustrating:/

I have 30 drip emitters on the same station, 6 are leaking. Will this fix the leak on 6 emitter? I will try nothibg to loose.

What happens if you remove the screw? An old schooler taught me to always remove the bleed screw completely to flush and bleed the valves but now I'm worried 😂
