When she said "bye" when she got out the first day of school was so sweet. The dad did a great job bringing emotion to that scene.
Usually, the acting is way over the top (not hating, just stating), but he was able to bring it with nuance.

I grew up in a foster home as my biological parents abandoned me for drugs, alcohol, physical abuse
I was traumatized and I fear meeting new people.
I never knew how it felt to be truly loved

Moral of the story: Foster children need to be loved and understood. That's why it's important not to give up on them before taking the time to know them.

As a former foster kid who never got a foster family and got sent back to the group homes by my own blood... this one hit hard. This truly is how it is. That family would have been my dream when i was in the system.
