The famed Penang dish nasi kandar was first brought to northern Malaysia by Tamil Muslim traders from India. Steamed rice is served with a variety of interesting curries, gravies, and side dishes. The term "nasi kandar" originated when nasi (rice) hawkers or merchants would carry two enormous containers of rice dinners while balancing a pole (kandar) on their shoulders. Penang still continues to have the best nasi kandar till today.

Yo, man. Pro tip to eat white rice is to mix well the rice with the gravy/sauces. Or else the taste will be too strong. Add a bit of your protein and a bit of veggies to your bite and enjoy ;)

My favourite way to eat nasi kandar is with the mixed sauces, fried chicken and the cabbage(idk what the dish is called but it's the yellow cabbage).

Next time if you planning to visit Perdana Botanical Garden I suggest in the morning you go have breakfast at Nasi Lemak Tanglin @kompleks and then go for a walk at the beautiful park/garden

Always stir your drinks, the sugar syrup usually settles on the bottom of the glass... 🤣 oh and when you go to other such nasi kandar places, avoid items such as their giant squid or giant prawns... those can cost a bomb... the giant prawn can be up to RM50-100 EACH. That nasi kandar looks awesome, now I know where to go when I'm craving for it. LOL

Nasi(Rice) Kandar(carried something with long stick at your shoulder), that the way the Nasi Kandar was sell in the old days, from one place to another place..Nasi kandar usually consists Plain white rice, mix of gravy that available, protein & vegetables.. Way to eat: mix plain white rice with all gravy & eat it with protein & vegetables...the best way to enjoy it.. 🙂

people gotta eat nasi kandar with white rice instead of briyani nice, it excels the mixed gravy, side dishes flavours even more

if you eat it with briyani rice, it became briyani rice with mixed side dishes, its not nasi kandar anymore in my opinion because it tasted totally different, the briyani will masked other flavors (too heavy) (also chooese a Fried chicken instead of any gravy chicken, it doent suit well if you not eating nasi kandar with fried chicken imo, and add the 'Daging hitam' means black cooked beef aswell)

also tips if you eat any food in malaysia:

to make sure you take abit of everything in the plate, put it in one spoon and eat it together. not mixing everything in the plate, just mixing it for the bite... and u can repeat the process and pick each dishes in an amount to your liking for the bite. this is the way

most food that eat by malaysians are made to be eating like that, the dishes was made to be eating mixed with others to get the full blown of intended flavors, it was not made to be eaten one by one. (i mean u can, but not optimal)

go for a second round in another shop bro, that was a rookie mistake 😂 but its your first time anyway ( since you in kl, u can try it at either NZ curry house, or Kasi Kandar pelita, near klcc) (a nicer one is 'Mahbub' but that one is in bangsar area not kl) hope this helps

Need to mix the drinks as the sugar syrup falls to the bottom of the glass

Oh man.. it's not a typical Nasi Kandar.. it's obviously Nasi Beriyani.. Nasi Kandar should be white rice.. the vegetables are cabbage and Chinese cucumber.. Next time please ask Nasi Kandar sellers to put the gravy or sauce sparingly..not too much..ha ha..
Anyway, glad that you enjoyed it!👍 😆
