Rendang comes from the Minangkabau people in West Sumatra, Indonesia. It's a traditional dish made by slow-cooking beef with coconut milk and spices like lemongrass, turmeric, garlic, and chilies. The dish was originally used to preserve meat for long journeys.

Rendang is from Indonesia, not malaysia. Rendang originated in Sumatra Barat, Indonesia. Minangkabau people invented it. Later, some Minangkabau people in Sumatra Barat moved to malaysia ('mostly' to negeri sembilan) and they keep making Rendang there. Since then, rendang started to be popular in malaysia. Unfortunately, malaysians don't know about this, that's why they say rendang is from malaysia, but it's not, it's 100% Indonesian 🇮🇩
