Interesting to see how much cooler the GPU was for the 5900x as well.

Reason 5800X3D runs hotter is due to its massive increase in L3 cache so instead of say a normal 36 or 16 etc it 96mb L3 which is a lot and great for gaming but also heats up a bit more then a normal non X3D

The difference isn’t that much.
Sure the 5800 is faster, but it’s not like blow your hair back faster. Nice comparison! I got the 5900 because I wanted more cores with the good fps. Personal choice.

Interesting to look at the big difference in temps.

Crazy. The 5900x is $220 and the 5800x3D is $330 from what I've found. So for $100 more it seems I get maybe 3 extra frames, but my system runs hotter... seems like an obvious choice.

Here in Brazil the prince of the Ryzen 5800x3D and 5900x are the same

5800x3d fps is better but 5900x was cooler 😊

Yes! Application Benchmarks! Thank you very much. That gives a way more complete picture. Could you add Blender (Cycles) to the mix?

You need to ensure you don't have max GPU load during CPU tests. Run at 1080p low settings if you want proper CPU info

Dont trade your 5900x for a 5800x3d thats just dumb

the 5900x is 300$ right now that ois a great price

Ryzen 9 5900X still the best option if you need so many cores and threads

I ended up going from a 5600X to a 5900X ($250 total) to rule out bottlenecks as I couldn't figure out why my 6700XT was behaving like it was CPU bound. I would see dips in GPU usage and FPS in easy to push games like BF4. The 5900X did not help and later learned there is some DRAW CALL issue with RDNA2 and many older DX11/10/9 games where the game isn't utilizing the CPU cores well and so it does show similar results to a CPU bound situation. DX12 the RDNA2 comes alive. I experienced this on 6600XT, 6700XT and now 6900XT. DX12 games harness the power the the RDNA2 line up but it's hit or miss on older games.

Update 2/1/24
I tried a 5800x3D and had much better utilization in BF4. Then tried a 7600x and also had great utilization. I think the 5600x-5900x were holding back my 6900xt. I get much more fully utilized GPU now as I trend it with a graph while in game.

The Question is Which one is more future proof?

Really comes down to productivity vs gaming. If you're primarily gaming, the extra cores of the 5900X aren't worth it. Otherwise, the 5900X is worth the extra cash.

Now, I know it's not apples to apples, but I'm curious how MY 5900x stacks up against that set up.
I use a 5900x with Asus Performance Enhancement (works better than manually setting PBO). APE gives 1000 watt PPT/1000 AMP TDC/180 amp EDC limits. So, the only limit is the 180 amp EDC. Then I have a +150 or +175mhz (right now +200mhz) boost going on, because I'm always experimenting. And I have a per core tune with Curve Optimizer. Well, per core on the first CCD. -24 on the last 6 cores.
Scalar at 2x for now... don't really wanna burn something out for .2 fps for a half a second. But, in CPU-z, I used to score like 96xx or maybe 9700, now I hit 10500 and it drops to 9950-10, 050 or so. A 180 EDC pretty much limits my wattages to 185ish watts in Prime95 with AVX.
In CPU-z, I'm doing all core 4575-4600mhz. That's the EFFECTIVE clock speed, too. Matches right up with what it's aiming for.

On top of all of that, I have 2x DDR4 3600 C16 dual rank RAM.

Now, I don't think all of that is enough to match the pure brute power that the 5800x3D has, even if it was running bone stock lol.. but I wonder how close I am to it now compared to stock. And if there are any games that I do stand a chance in.

And I wonder if the 5800x3D would gain a lot with my set up.

This is all just on an Asus B550-F Gaming Wi-Fi II, btw. I only have a 6700XT 12GB.

I used to want to sell the 5900x and get a 5800x3D but... it feels too late now. Not really worth it with a 6700XT. I play 1440p/Max/Ultra settings, anyways. I push around 55% CPU usage in BF2042 lol (which is really more like 42-45% true usage in HWiNFO64). So, even in the HEAVISEST popular game, the 5800x3D has plenty of cores/threads to hang.

The only thing I know I could beat the 5800x3D at is BeamNG if we put 50 cars on the road and let AI drive them for traffic. Stupid, very specific challenges like that.

MAN, that 5800x3D is so awesome. And I've got 64MB L3 cache to beat it all. BUT the 5800x3D has 96MB cache!!!

I think there are about 2% of games that have to be set up unfairly to where the 5900x could edge out the 5800x3D, and that's ONLY because it would have to be set up to push the 5800x3D to 100% lol. So it feels like cheating. I don't even think my 5900x could beat he 5800x3D if I was to use the CPU to record using OBS Studio while playing BF2042... which is a VERY intensive task for the CPU. It may, though. I know it will choke out a 5600x. It definitely requires more than 6c/12t. But 8c/16t is a really nice sweet spot.

I kind of want to challenge it at some EXTREMES. Not the usual things... but the things you'd THINK the 5900x MIGHT have a chance at... and I want to be surprised if the 5800x3D beats it.

I wish the saved their money (AMD) and instead of throwing out 5600x3D's, they went with some 5900x3D's. A 5900x is just 2x 5600x's. It's double the cache, 2x CCD's, just better silicon to hit 4.95ghz bone stock out of the box. It's rated 4.8 ghz because CCD0 hits 4.95ghz and CCD1 hits 4.8ghz. I hit 5.1ghz at times, but usually average 4.7-4.8ghz in games... depending on the game. Some games don't push it hard enough so I average 4.5ghz.

Because I really don't need to spend my money in the wrong place. I need a GPU upgrade so that I can later upgrade to AM5 and get a 7800x3D. I don't need to get a 5800x3D with this little 6700XT. Not to mention, I'm used to these threads, now. I use them. it's great to use in Handbrake when you want to shrink a video down to a smaller size with higher quality than the GPU can do. I mean, I know it's faster at everything else, but I'm a gamer. It's just that this 6700XT 12GB really isn't enough to warrant swapping over to a 5800x3d :-(

Edit: BUT... but... I do believe if someone said "here's a 5800x3D, do you want to trade?" I'd say "yes". It wouldn't be an easy "yes", but I think I would do it. Mainly because it'd be combined with my DDR4 3600 C16 dual rank RAM and my other motherboard tweaks. So it'd perform better than what you see on YouTube of 5800x3D + 6700XT 12GB benchmarks.

But I have to admit, I'd miss the 24 threads the 5900x has over the 16 threads I'd end up with.

I'm stuck on trying to decide which CPU to go with myself. Currently have a 3900x and want to upgrade to the 5000 series vs buying a AM5 motherboard and DDR5 and I play on 4k settings. So, I'm guessing that the 5900x should be better for the 4k correct?

So the 5800x3d is like 5% better at most while running much hotter

ANOTHER "cpu test" that is GPU bound! Great! -.-
