It depends on how long you have been waiting to upgrade your GPU. If you have been waiting 4-6 years then nothing wrong with upgrading now as what you’ll be getting is an amazing upgrade.

I recently bought a used RTX 3080 for 325.00 and haven't looked back. Done buying these GPUs at insane prices.

I just got a 7900xt on launch day and I am pairing it with a i5-13600k and I am super excited for it especially since I have had a 1080ti since launch so it is a big generation upgrade. Even though the value on the 7900xt is not the best I am still excited to be able to get the close to the top of the line gpu.

EDIT: This is kinda funny but after looking and reading reviews and comparing, I have decided to return my 7900xt and go for a 4080 FE. So therefor this whole comment is kind of useless now lmao.

I am saddened that so many people now are actually paying ridiculous amounts for the RTX 4080. All the cards are too much but that one is ridiculous, and there isn't even a mining rush/shortage! Those people are just enabling NVIDIA and to a lesser extent, AMD, to raise prices even higher.

I just upgraded from a GTX 1660 Super to an RTX 3060ti. I’m currently using an intel core i5 9600k and an RTX 3060ti. I’m happy with my pc

I usually upgrade my entire rig every 6+ years. Currently on a 1070 and 6600k.

Not pulling the trigger yet, waiting a couple of months but I will probably jump on it this gen. Also going from 1080p 60fps to 4k 120fps (hopefully), still waiting to see if any new monitors come in Q1/Q2 2023 before I go with a 42 C2 (A bit scared of burn-in since I do also play mmos)

All I know is I’m enjoying how my 4080 just powers through newer games at 4K all max settings and max Ray tracing and still averaging above 60fps with DLSS/FSR. I averaged 80fps on Callisto Protocol with everything turned up the entire game. Running an i9 12900KF. Also running a +150mHz overclock on the gpu and a slight overclock on the VRAM which did give me about an 8-10 fps boost in Kombuster.

Just got a new msi 6800XT new for 635€. The card is impossible to get under 900€ where I live.
I would have much preferred getting one of those new gpu's, especially for Ray tracing, but none of them seem to get under 1000€ anytime soon.

Cracks me up seeing some people buy a 4090 only to pair it up with an old 1440p display.

Happy to say I got my powercolor red devil 6900xt for $541.00 (inc shipping) on ebay. Came in immaculate, clean condition and runs great! Thermals are OK as well but I probably will end up redoing the thermal paste at some point.

I currently have an AMD 3900x with an EVGA FTW 2080ti (both overclocked.) No problems running any game I own at high (not extreme) settings.

Got a Gigabyte Gaming OC 4080 at launch and am happy with my purchase. Thermals are great and power efficiency is great as well. I was tempted to maybe go for 4090 but felt I would need a top of the line CPU and new DDR5 mobo/ram setup to make good use of it, so the 4080 fit in well with my gaming needs. I'm not rushing to play games at 4K maxed out 170+ fps. But, I can get near that in most games with upscalers and other things, so it doesn't feel like too much of a compromise. I recently rebuilt my PC but used my old mobo and got a 5800x3d CPU which I feel is great for the GPU bracket of the 4080 - not bottlenecking myself too much but still getting great performance.

The thing is, all of this discussion is nonsense. None of this is a 'need' situation. All of this is 'want'. And, if you want something, you want it. I'm not going to let someone else make that decision for me because I do what I want lol. No one should ever feel pressured to go one way or another. Don't feel bad if you decide to purchase something expensive. Treat yo'self! :P

I'm on 3900x paired with a 1080ti... would love to upgrade, but not with todays prices

Finally. You've got it. Been saying this for a long time. Most of the video cards, especially new ones, are at least 30% overpriced. Unfortunately, most people are hypocrites and want the best of the best, and the money goes straight into the pockets of corrupt top managers.

Coming from a GTX 1080, I bought an Aorus RX 6900 XT Waterforce Extreme for 625€ and I plan on skipping a gen or two until prices go back to normal levels. No regrets at all :)

I bought LG OLED CX 48" almost 2 years ago (thanks to stimulus $$$) paired with RTX 3090 & 5800X3D. The display was a huge improvement over my old UHD Samsung 43" TV. 4K at 120 for most games I played have been fantastic. The display does matter IMO.
