I don’t understand why people were expecting GameCube. Why would they need to do a closed server test for GameCube games?

I agree fully. It's like MiiVerse crossed with Playstation Home and more game elements.

If that datamine is accurate, there are a couple of ways that I can see it being at least cross-gen.

1) Live service cross-play, which could also require building in voice chat (via headset) and party management to Switch finally rather than needing a separate phone app to handle that, but that stuff being native to Switch 2 Day 1.

2) It gives Switch something that is going to require years of support. So, even the current Switch lines don’t get a single game after the launch of Switch 2 and Pokemon Legends Z-A and Metroid Prime 4, it still has support for the promised 10 years and then some.

From what ive read on the playtest website (i was selected) I kinda feel like its not a game that will actually release but more like a lot of online mechanics that they wanted to test disguised as a new game. I feel like theres a 3d, content and character interaction driven miiverse in there, or maybe (and that one is kinda far fetched) an animalcrossing with possibly muliple people in different cities on a single planet that you can visit eachother seamlessly.


What i haven’t seen a lot of people mention yet is that its not just Minecraft, from what i can tell it also uses zeldas new object lock meckanics, links ultrahand mechanic, the underground flower thingies that create light and heal the underground from totk aka the beacons. Some features are hidden in the faq section of the page. Theres a question there on what to do when your energy bar drops to zero. It answers this by saying that it wont auto regen and to regen the energy bar wich is drained by actions like fusing objects, you either have to go into a hotspring in the hub or drop / layoff cards or maps (idk what it says in the English version, in German the words for map and card are the same) wich kinda makes me feel like theres an action card system. All in all i find it very weird because it almost seems too random and to much of a mix of mechanics for Nintendo, its a wild mix of exsisting and new mechanics but the new ones are as far as i can tell mostly online and social related wich makes me feel like these are the things they actually want to test.

Things like player location tracking and plot claiming, maybe servers instead of p2p, online save continuity/stability. Dynamic world loading with multiple people, the list goes on and on. For me it feels like they want to test mostly online centered mechanics that they plan on splitting up and using in multiple games (aka this is a placeholder mix of multiple games)wich would also explain all the zelda like mechanics and the dev theme wich reminds me of the nintendo game maker they published on switch, the social and customization anc aspects and the UCC aspects of the mii verse.

(Ps: idk about the english version but the german version to my understanding states that you can create and share all kinds of user created content within this game so maybe we can also draw and „program“ minigames inside this playtest thingy not just build. Its also highly social as there are extra xp types, levels and items you can only get/level/unlock through socializing)

If we can be creative enough I'm stoked. I never got into Minecraft but I have played another sandbox survival game that is more my style: Scrap Mechanic. If this new thing is anything like that I'll be happy

Nothing about this seems Minecraft like at all. Like many people said it sounds more like a PlayStation Home type thing. A hub to hang out with other switch users.

If it ends up as visually appealing as Dragon Quest Builders that would be an incredible world.

I expect it will be an evergreen offering for the NSO Expansion as the other DLC fades in relevance.

The test might be more about the infrastructure than the platform. Roblox is very popular and having your own version could be beneficial. Animal Crossing and Mario Maker have had their highs so why not mix that up and embrace that community aspect.

Wait I watched a YouTube video of this and appears that more of the secrets are being leaked it was not pulled from the website it was downloaded into someone’s Nintendo switch and someone did a screen recording of the playtest program

I wanna play this so bad. It sounds fun! I didn’t get into Minecraft and Roblox got so many kids. I can get into this though! Especially if characters can be Mario, Fire Emblem or Zelda themed!

I think it kinda reminds me of game builder garage…. If they wanna test it before switch 2 release im wondering if its switch 2 hub world, and the small characters may be toad characters?
