To me, the secrecy indicates that this WON’T be a final product - that it is literally just a test, and they don’t want images or video of it associated with Nintendo after the test completes. They may even be concerned that some company would replicate the core ideas or characters into an actual game.

Come on man they’re not stupid. They knew damn well it was gonna get shared all over the place and that’s how viral marketing works. They’re getting way more attention for this game through all the leaks and speculation than they ever would have just releasing a trailer.

I tried racking my brain over what this playtest could be that other people hadn't already suggested/predicted. Here's what I'm hoping it will be. Imagine Nintendo's version of PlayStation Home from the PS3. But instead of launching it from the default user interface on the console, it IS the default user interface for the console. You launch your games from it, customize your own personal area of the 'hub world' play mini games and access your console settings all from this hub world, much like you could after you launched PS Home. But there's nothing to lauch. This environment is where the console loads to from the start.

I do believe this whole thing could have been handled better. Nintendo is aware there have been a great deal of leaks as of late...asking 10, 000 people to not disclose [The Thing] was never going keep anyone from talking.

How do you know this is an actual game? Could be testing aspects of it to apply in other ways. Dunno if anything tested is indicative of any final game or anything
