People saying it's GameCube NSO forgot that we already got a GameCube emulated game via Sunshine in Mario 3D All Stars. That means they've had a working in-house GameCube emulator for a long while now.
I dont see why they'd have to playtest GameCube NSO.

I wasn't into social media at the time of the first one, and taking screenshots was a hassle. But with Twitter integration gone, I really want somewhere to show off screenshots and clips again.

I think they're adding Rollback Netcode to the N64 app. This playtest is obviously multiplayer based and rollback netcode and multiplayer go hand in hand. The Playtest is locked behind Expansion Pak players, so it makes sense for the feature to be for that subset of players. They also likely want to make sure it works before updating the N64 apps so they don't break.

My personal favorite theory is that it's a beta test for a Trophy/Achievement system for Switch 2. Makes sense, I think you don't need THAT many people for something like that and it creates a lot of buzz since it's a feature people have wanted for a decade plus.

Would also make sense if there's some game that's tied to it, maybe an old one purely for functionality testing.. maybe a demo of an upcoming game for hype?
