I schedule pediatric MRI/CT patients and the insurance authorization is the most annoying thing on earth. Dude could need an MRI for a malignant tumor and the insurance could just be like "nah I disagree".

insurance companies literally make no sense. But it’s fine.

I remember talking with a couple of people on my medical team after they fought really hard for Physical Therapy, Imaging, medications, and needed treatment. I let them know that I know how hard they fight for what I need medically and I felt bad they had to go thru that and thanked them for fighting for me and how hard they try to do their best.
They immediately responded with: “ that’s why we’re here! We fight for you because it’s part of our job, someone needs to advocate for your care when you can’t, & you are worth it! “
That really helped me to not feel as bad & seriously appreciate the people on my medical team advocating for me so I get the best care possible!
Thank You sooo much to all who fight & advocate for your patients! ❤❤❤

Yes Mike! I get annoyed as a patient, can't imaging being a provider. I love Dr Glaucomflecken's video, "So you work for the insurance company?" *immediate denial*

Person on the call: “What patient?”
Dr. Mike: “Am I a joke to you?”

Historically, doctors (and pediatricians were reknown for it) were known to cuss out insurance companies in a manner that left the queen speechless and left the U.S. navy to define additional profanity.

I recently had quite the issues with an health insurance company that really questioned, if the patient really needs chemo and radiation after the operation, if the tumor has been completely cut out. It took me a lot of explaining and trying not to get frustrated to get it across to them. The next step would have been to talk through lawyers, wich does happen occasionally in general. I mean wth, they are a big company and that's definitely not their first cancer patient!

Im so happy you are talking about this. I dont think anyone outside of the healthcare system understands this struggle. They turned my dept from admitting to pre authorization for the biggest health care system in my state. It was a challenge- but I love being able to take care of the patients in some way. I wanted to be a PA, either in the ED or pediatrics/family med and i just bombed HS and messed things up for myself.
My daughter wants to be a Veterinarian or Oral Surgeon- I will make sure I support her dreams- only 3 more years of HS and I’ll be damned if she messes her future up by trying to be cool and skip class or act a fool to get suspended or ISD

I hear that as a patient, I was prescribed the only antibiotic that works with kidney infections, for my insurance to deny the coverage and I had to pay out of pocket because I was nearing sepsis

I spent 22 years as an orthopedic surgical medical assistant. Every day I beat my head up against the wall trying to get Auth from insurance companies for tests and procedures. It's essentially a game you have to play. In order to win the game you have to know the right cards to lay down and in what order and the tricks to jump ahead faster and avoid traps set. If you're lucky and and skilled you get the prize AUTHORIZATION!!

Long ago when I started working the business side of healthcare I figured out that working for insurance companies broke my soul, so I started working for doctors as a medical coder. They also break my soul, but in the documentation way. Not in the "that's not medically necessary" way. 😂

I felt this. I don't work in healthcare. I'm a patient with chronic issues that requires multiple specialists. I've had many conversations like this with my insurance company.

This is the way to make me more sympathetic toward doctors. Not toward the medical system thing but at least toward doctors.
