As a software engineer having worked for large companies I can confirm that marketing and engineering don't see eye to eye. Sometimes they start selling/marketing things that we haven't even STARTED building yet and have no clue how the final product will work.

"the show featuring a core i5 being faster than a ryzen 9 is brought to you by... userbenchmark" LMAO nice one

"we're going to have a new outro every week"

"we got a second into. We're going to get back to making new intros!"
*keeps that new intro for years*

13:40 Wow, this really hits close to home for me. I brought my pc back and forth between houses every week for about 3 years until very recently. I had to make the decision between a laptop and a desktop then. I was only able to get the desktop because my parents drove us between houses every week and later I drove myself and my brother. It took like 40 minutes every week to take the setup apart, put it in the car, take all out of the car and carry it to my room, and set everything up again. Those were some tough times. My heart is out to everyone who is dealing with a similar situation to me.
Edit: It took so long because there were quite a few steps I had to travel to take everything, which was many trips after taking a while to somewhat organize my cables and periferals like my headset, keyboard, etc. Also my pack up time would line up with the WAN show so that hat is another factor. This is another reason them discussing it touched me so much.

Luke's frugality actually makes me so happy. Good job Luke, more people need to be like you!

these are the kinda podcast episodes thats let me know linus has a heart of gold.

if it werent for you guys and the amazing efforts of your informative team i wouldnt be succeeding in my every day life by striving to get better with pc owning/workstation use/pc building.

thanks again linus, you guys made me the DIY tech “expert” i am today, thanks to you ive gotten good enough at diagnosing pc issues that ive fixed 2 motherboards (both had bent socket pins) with a sewing needle and my iphone light and its made my confidence in owning more expensive parts skyrocket (because i got both boards to run) which is great for pushing myself to improve my music/video editing skills!

i love building pc’s- its given my life new light and motivation that i desperately needed.

soon i hope to build a home server/databank for file sharing but ECCRAM and intel Platinum are still out of my league.
for now ill just keep drooling at images of founders edition GPUS being sold online.

Funny you bring up the divorced parents gaming laptop thing, one of my friends in high school was in exactly this situation, wanted a desktop but ended up having to get a laptop because of moving between his parents houses...

20:51 Luke and Linus are perfectly in sync and it sounds like a demonic voice changer app... Especially at faster speeds.

As a guy who moves a lot (Sales Representative) Having a slim gaming laptop is a blessing that I'm currently saving my money to buy. Your whole work desk in one small lightweight laptop.

I'm always on call, sometimes only 15 minute prep time. I'm busy most of the time but when I have some down time, I really want to game.

Right now, I have a decent slim laptop but I'm drooling over the Asus Zephyrus G15. Slim, professional aesthetic and could game with no problem. Small enough for any hotel desk. Can't wait to get more comission money to get one.

I think I'm in a small demographic of gamers who move a lot but we exist tho. Not sure if companies get a lot of profit from us.

Also, having a gaming laptop meant I was more likely to have my games with me which meant I would more likely to play and complete them. Yes, from most Gamers that don't go anywhere( I mostly fit this type too) it makes no sense but if you actually travel a lot then it is useful. It was amazing being able to play games in the airport.

With reference to how people would rather carry a laptop to class rather than a full fat desktop, I use to walk to my friends house all the time with my full sized atx case with 8 hard drives and a back pack with a dis-assembled monitor and peripherals. Might as well get a little bit of exercise in before I marathon 12 hours at a LAN party.

Hearing them argue about why someone would buy a gaming laptop, and how they think people having to move between 2 places is a rare thing makes me feel like they never heard of university students before lol.

Edit: almost every student I know in my university has a gaming laptop or want to buy one.

"It may be way to expensive. Or way to janky. Or both"
Probably the most accurate definition of his channel yet.

My first gaming laptop was a chunky Gateway FX one from 2008. I gave it to a relative and it still works to this day, 13 years later. My second gaming laptop was an Asus G73JH which I got as an upgrade to the Gateway. It lasted about 7 years and I gamed almost everyday on that thing before it finally started having issues. But in defense of that computer, I treated it very roughly and even then 7 years is a long time for a gaming computer. My current laptop is an Acer Nitro 5 which has been going strong for about 3 years, zero issues. I could just be insanely lucky, always possible, but gaming laptops don't die that fast in my experience. I mean, how long do you realistically want your laptop to last? If its like 3-5 years, there's pretty much no reason to fear getting a laptop.

Buying a gaming laptop is probably cheaper than buying a desktop now. Especially when a 3060 Laptop is close to the same price of a 3060 GPU. We live in the darkest timeline
