They're just using the same POSIX standards. That's all btw.

They’re more like cousins, distant cousins

MacOS is based on FreeBSD, which is very different from Linux. The only reason it seems so similar is that they are both UNIX-Like systems, which means that they use a POSIX compliant shell.

this wasn't just clickbait, this was perpetual bait all the way through

You know it is peak YouTube when there is 0% information in a video.

Mac is actually based on BSD for its kernel. And that's because BSD allows proprietary derivatives of its software. If you make an operating system with the Linux kernel, it must be open source. So they aren't the same kernel.

This is also why iOS uses the BSD kernel, and Android uses Linux because Android does open source.

Unix is no longer an OS.
Its last release was in the early 90s.
Even from before that and to this day, Unix is a set of standards to be followed by anyone wanting to create an OS and saying it’s a version of Unix.
From at least 1995, OS developers can have their work certified to be Unix.
macOS is certified, as well as a couple others developed by IBM and HP.
No one pays for any Linux distro to be certified, and that’s why they’re called “Unix-like”.
That said, even if you certified a Linux distro to the same Unix standard the Apple does for macOS, it doesn’t make them the same OS.

Mac is just Linux is equivalent to say:

Ferrari is FIAT

Actually, it's BSD, right?
Darwin was derived from BSD.

Did you know your hot dog and a A10 warthog are the same cause they're both made of atoms, thats the levels of mental gymnastics we're working with here

Fun fact: there are a group of developers that create a custom version of Ubuntu that can run on modern macs/arm based macs/Apple Silicon based macs and it works
You just need to install it with commands

Oooh you were technically correct until the end. “Kernel similarities” is actually the opposite of their comparison — theirs kernels are very different, the middles are a bit different (monolithic versus microkernel), but above that is POSIX which they share. This video needed to say “POSIX”. (Above that, the application layer is again different, but indeed swappable, and solutions exist to share across them — similar to running iPhone apps on Mac).

Macs aren't linux. Linux isn't the standard. Mac just obeys POSIX stabdards, and is based on some kind of BSD(was it openBSD?)

Linux is the kernel. Most distributions are based on GNU software (GNU's not UNIX).
Now we call the compatible commands as POSIX-compatible, due to so many UNIX clones. The kernel is quite different, the Darwin/Mach-O kernel is based on the BSD kernel, which was originally the UNIX kernel, but was later replaced with new code. Though there is an old version of Macintosh Operating System that was literally running the UNIX kernel, before Steve Jobs returned.

Fun fact, you can get bash on windows as well

Ok, so, expanding on that, they are based on the same kernel, but the way they allow programs to interface with the OS is very different. For example, in Linux GUI is managed via a socket based communication protocol called X11 (Simplifying for clarity), while in macOS all graphic rendering is managed by a system called Cocoa (Simplifying for clarity). So even if a terminal app works in both platforms (Requiring a recompilation because they manage dynamic linking differently), the GUI will NOT work in both. Neither will most other things like input, networking, hardware acceleration, and so on

I understand it's simplified for people but there's a LOT of glossing here. Including no mention of BSD, GNU, and the fact that the kernels are completely different, it's the OS that are related. Also it's "oo-boonto"
