"The Great Carrier Reef"
The person who named it must've been a fellow dad.

Saluted to the men, who are still on duty at USS Arizona, in 1997. R.I.P

I remember seeing USS Oriskany at the port of Pensacola shortly before she was towed out into the gulf and sunk. Another ship in the area is USS Massachusetts(BB-2). She was sunk just outside the inlet into Pensacola Bay.

You can also visit the HMHS Britannic, if you are an experienced diver you can actually dive down to a WWI hospital ship, also for anyone who is curious she is in 406 ft of water.

Vessels like the USS Arizona, USS Thresher, USS Scorpion and the USS Cyclops are still considered active - "eternal patrol" in the case of the two submarines - hence they retain the USS designation instead of being referred to as the ex-USS Arizona, for example. That is an honor the US Navy accords to the fallen sailors.

The Sweepstakes is in Lake Huron, near a tourist town called Tobermory. The glass bottom boat tour over the Sweepstakes is very nice with a surprisingly sharp clear look at the wreck, then hiking on a nearby island. Tobermory is the north end of the Bruce trail and is the site of the docks for the ferry which services Manitoulin Island.
I point this out because Tobermory is about a ten hour drive from Thunder Bay. You got the correct Province anyway.

I would not refer to the uss arizona as "abandoned"

I was on the USS Arizona monument above the ship when the last Arizona survivor passed away. It is truly a beautiful ship that has a lot of potential.

I was gonna say SS America, but I think she's basically dissolved away now.

#0 The HMHS Britannic. Britannic is the third sister of the White Star Line's Olympic class, sister to the RMS Olympic and the RMS Titanic. The Britannic was converted into a hospital ship (His Majesty's Hospital Ship) during The Great War and made trips to and from the Mediterranean to return wounded soldiers to England. On it''s final voyage at 8.12am on 21st November 1916, Britannic struck a mine laid by a German U-Boat in the Kea Channel off the coast of Greece. It sank in approximately 390 ft of water in about 55 minutes. It lays mostly intact on it starboard side, and is accessible to expert technical divers and submersibles. At 993 feet long and 53, 200 tons, the HMHS Britannic remains the largest passenger shipwreck on the sea floor in the world.

I've been to the ship in the Greek Cove, it was an over crowded ordeal, swam to shore from a tourist boat to find a thousand other people wondering about. The beach itself is not sand but large pebbles so take shoes. Incidentally, this wreck was put out on the cove
as a tourist attraction. Seriously.

I always get a little sad to see sunken boats and ships, the beautiful vessels look so helpless, almost embarrassed not to do what they are supposed to do, float and work.

While I was aboard my first ship, we chased the Oriskany all over the western pacific. She just completed her last yard period before that cruise. While transiting the Straits of Taiwan, we encountered heavy weather, Oriskany lost a good portion of her catwalks. and returned to Subic Bay while continued to Sasebo, Japan. Where we had repairs made to our upper mast that had broken off and hung by cables while in the storm.

I live in Jeddah, and at South Jeddah there are 5 wrecks you can visit in a couple of kilometres stretch of beach. One of them is a scary ghost ship, and another is a cruise ship right on the beach. It is so cool.
