As a bartender, there is NEVER a "correct" old fashioned. It's like asking if chocolate or vanilla is better. Wars will be started, feelings hurt, and families torn apart

The only appropriate Old Fashioned recipe is:
-1 orange slice
-1 maraschino cherry + 1 teaspoon cherry juice
-1 sugar cube
-4 – 6 dashes Angostura bitters
-1 1/2 ounces brandy
-Ice
-Seltzer
Muddle the orange, cherry, cherry juice and sugar
Add brandy and fill with ice then top with seltzer and and a splash of 7-up if you like it sweet or Squirt if you like it sour.
Nothing else compares.

Here's my recipe

2 oz bourbon(I lean towards Bulleit and 4 Roses, personally)
1/2 oz honey syrup
2 dashes angostura bitters
Orange peel
Ice

Combine liquid ingredients into desired container. Squeeze orange peel over liquid, then use orange peel to stir, leaving it in as garnish. Add ice.
