Today we'll be discussing the importance of using the right whiskey. A lot of people use bourbon in their Old Fashioneds, but did you know that rye whiskey can give it a more complex flavor? We'll show you how to use a blend of both for a unique twist.

Next, we'll be introducing you to gum syrup. This might sound strange, but gum syrup is a sweetener made from tree sap that adds a rich, velvety texture to your cocktail. It's a game changer that you won't want to miss.

Lastly, we'll be adding a touch of saline solution. This might sound strange, but the salt helps to bring out the flavors in the whiskey and enhance the overall taste of the drink. Just a small amount is all you need.

After watching this video, you'll be ready to make the perfect Old Fashioned like a pro. We'll be walking you through the recipe step by step so you can follow along at home. So don't miss out and join us in this Old Fashioned Revolution.

"Bacon instead of pancetta" made every Italian go oof💀 (guanciale is the traditional cut for carbonara)

Jokes aside, great video and great channel in general

Couldn’t agree more - saline in everything! 👌👌

I've been experimenting with saline in the last year, and I've found that it elevates almost any cocktail. Flavors just seem more vibrant, like increasing the saturation of a color. But the effect is especially noticeable in spirit-forward stirred cocktails. Absolute game-changer with a Manhattan, Rob Roy, or Churchill.

This sounds like a great way to make an Old Fashioned. I have both gum syrup and saline solution on hand, so I'll have to try making it this way.

I love that you didn't pick a specific whisky for this! I'm one of those people that always feel like I need to get a specific item for a cocktail to make it exactly "perfect" to the recipe.
Thanks for sharing this recipe! Going to try it! :)

10% Saline is actually 10g of Salt in 100g of Water.

You made a 11.11% Saline Solution. There is a negligible amount of volume displacement when you’re adding salt, so you’re not making a true total of 100g of Water.

First time I realized how much of a difference a bit of salt makes was when we composed a variation on the oaxacan OF... been a big fan of putting a tiny bit of salt in everything ever since. Saline drops will def make it easier to get consistent results =)

I’m so glad you had the courage to go plank out on exposing the controversy of adding one (!) drop of saline solution to your old fashioned drink 😅

If anyone's looking for a really interesting rye, look to Australian offerings! Rye's a really underutilized grain there, so they've got some interesting varieties that carry more flavour than most of what's grown in North America & Europe (mostly varieties bred for yield etc), and it comes through in the bottle.

Interesting idea! I know a bunch of folks add saline to quite a few different drinks as it adds, like a sprinkle of finishing salt on some dishes, a pop of flavor-enhancing brightness. I'll give it a go, but I still am a fan of going rich and sweetish on this drink, with a bit of the syrup from the Luxardo Maraschino Cherry jar added to the Demerera. Cheers! Salud!

I’ve heard a pinch of salt instead of saline solution works as well, would you agree?

Love it. I tend to break up by bitters going with 2 dashes Angostura and 1 dash Peychaud’s, just to add a bit of anise flavor.

Salt does the same thing in cocktails that it does in food, enhances the flavors!

I’m going to add this to my Kenyan cocktail Dawa. Think with the use of honey in the drink it will enhance it. Salted honey is delicious.
