When multi-talented performer Selena Quintanilla-Perez was killed in 1995, the music world lost a legend, and her family lost a loving daughter, sister, and wife. Despite being only 23 years old when she was killed by the president of her own fan club, Yolanda Saldívar, the groundbreaking pop sensation would go on to lead a successful — if tragically short — career, crossing over from Spanish-language music to English pop and even nabbing a Latin Grammy along the way. After her death, though, the legacy that Selena left behind — and its monetary value — got pretty complicated, with a slew of family squabbles and legal battles pertaining to her money and musical rights ensuing. With that in mind, here's who inherited Selena's money after she died.

What is it with fathers and their child's money? Her husband had every right to tell his story!

This is why I have mixed feelings about her family. As her husband, Chris was supposed to get everything and trusted his in-laws not to screw him over and that's exactly what they did. It's a betrayal. The guy can't even make a show about his own life with his wife?? (I have that book by the way, it's beautiful ❤)
They treat Chris as if he was a stain on Selena's legacy which would upset Selena the most since she loved him more than enough to marry him. She would be heartbroken to see how her own family and dad are mistreating the man she loved.
Poor Chris 😢
RIP Selena ❤❤❤

I feel like her family is more interested in the money. Chris' book is amazing. The love he had and still has for her is something most people will never experience. The fact that her family is trying to stop anyone from telling their personal experiences is insulting to her memory. She LOVED everyone around and would want the world to know the real her, not just the famous side. She was a person like everyone else, her job didn't define her. The stories of her being a normal person who loved animals, could drive anything, and wanted a separate life from just the band, are the most beautiful stories to be told, they're worth sharing and remembering.

When it comes to money after a death, you’ll ALWAYS see someone’s TRUE colors.

Chris Perez was her husband. He also was a part of her life. He should be allowed to tell his story about the 2 of them as a married couple.

Chris even said in a interview a year ago he said he feels that her family is trying to silence her and tell the world how she really was. She would have emotional breakdowns and all that over the stress her father put her through but they didn't show that in the series how her father tracked chris down when him and selena started dating because she came home late keep in mind she was living in her own place when her and chris Started dating she was an adult

Her father always uses power as his drug of choice. He took advantage of his son-in-law's grief. She loved her husband so much it is heartbreaking to see what happened after she was gone. God is the final judge.

i think her dad was very demanding and wasn't fair to chris as her husband and widow. he had a life with her also and should be able to tell that story

Let her husband tell their story. Geesh! People get evil when people die.

It makes me so sad knowing Selena is probably rolling over in her grave knowing how her family is treating the love of her life😢 To disrespect Cris is to disrespect Selena smh

Living in CC and seeing firsthand how her family are like vultures still picking at the carcass of her talents from when she was alive is disgusting and pathetic to me. Obviously, all they have done is make their living off her since her death. None of them have amounted to anything on their own. Her husband has been treated so disrespectfully by them. At least, he has tried to make his own life and not seen her death and legacy as some kind of carnival show to generate money from. Her father respects her legacy as long as it’s generating a paycheck for him and he can control people with it. Her sister is still jealous of her and her talents. Her brother can’t seem to pay for the kids he continues to make and keep himself out off of deadbeat dad warrant lists. If you go to visit her “museum” if you can call it that. It’s pathetic. All of the exhibits have been poorly maintained and are ratted, faded and junked up. Nothing has been preserved. You can tell it’s all just out there to make money for them. These people are the worst excuse for caretakers of a talent’s legacy since Colonel Tom Parker and worst. Chris is a good soul and the only one that has ever truly honored the loss of her and who she truly was despite the money machine she was to her whole family. Shame on them.

Chris should hire a lawyer and reopen his case. He’s entitled as a widow to handle Selena’s possessions. He should be entitled to tell the romantic part of Selena, he’s the only one that can actually talk about it.

Imagine where she would be today…so sad

Both her parents were straight out selfish!! They even made sure she stayed close to home, having her live next door, no real privacy, seeing and being by those money hungry parents of hers! Chris deserved his rights to his wife's legacy and he has won that now!!!

Selena didn't win a LATIN Grammy. She won an ANGLO Grammy for her album "Selena Live!". One thing is the Latin Grammys, the other is the original, Anglo Grammys. Latin Grammys didn't even exist back when Selena was alive. They came to be in 2000, 5 years after her death.

After all, it was all a business plan from the get go. He wasn’t trying to support his kids talents. He wanted to make money off them. He exploited them and considered them a business transaction, not family. It’s sad what fame, money and power does to a person. He wasn’t able to succeed as an artist so he found another way. What a POS father. R.I.P Selena. You are always missed🥀🤍
