InPresence 0118: The Power of Positive Thinking

InPresence host, Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD, is author of The Roots of Consciousness, Psi Development Systems, and The PK Man. Between 1986 and 2002 he hosted and co-produced the original Thinking Allowed public television series. He is the recipient of the only doctoral diploma in "parapsychology" ever awarded by an accredited university (University of California, Berkeley, 1980). For many years he served as president of the non-profit Intuition Network, an organization dedicated to creating a world in which all people were supported and encouraged in developing inner intuitive abilities.

Here he notes that the best-selling book, The Power of Positive Thinking, was written by Rev. Norman Vincent Peale, pastor of the Marble Collegiate Church in New York City. This is the church that Donald Trump attended as a child and the one to which he claimed to be a member. One can see both the negative and positive aspect of Peale's philosophy reflected in the Donald Trump narrative. Jeff then goes on to highlight the thinking of psychiatrist, Jule Eisenbud, who warns that individuals with self-destructive psychic complexes can harm themselves when engaging in parapsychological activity.

What an awesome service you offer everyone Mr. Mishlove! Genuinely positive service indeed! What a great correlation you illustrate between true positive thinking and psi through depth.

I read this book 58 years ago when I was a high school junior at a new school. I had noticed my “old” friend from the 7th grade was wonderful to talk to and I had also noticed that she was interested in talking about me much of the time. I mentioned my observation to her and she loaned me the book.
Neither of us ever thought too much about extreme success and money in the early 60s.
I think we looked at interpersonal relations as coin of the realm.
Among the most useful suggestions this 16 year old took to heart was to speak to people first, if only a “hi”.
So, a book can be looked at as the key to many things. Im betting may of the reverend’s suggestions could help interviewers keep the conversation going.

I love the way you speak your mind while trying to be respectful of those who may vehemently disagree in the name of self-awareness, knowledge, presence, etc. Also, as someone who didn't care for the "transmissions" at the beginning, l am loving them at the end. Great vid 👏

It is good to see spiritual men taking interest into politics. Initially politics was a sub-sector of the spiritual organization, but now the tables seem to have turned. We as a species are degenerating due to this. More spiritual men should involve themselves in politics without shame or abhorrence.

Very good points. Not everything turns out as one might think.
Or, maybe you could say that there's more facets to something
than we at first think. :-)

Dr. Peale's book, TPOPT, kicked started my own awareness, and from there I began
my journey into learning about human consciousness.
I'm so thankful for that book, and Dr. Peale's writing.

Much respect on this point Jeff. Really the way that was expressed about positive thinking is something but not everything.

Being very careful what one is in service to... That Echoes great wisdom of the ongoing nature of the internal deep emotional and mental work. Recognizing also the consequence of self-acceptance... Which can also be a get-out-of-jail-free card to put my ego in service to a narcissistic or selfish path that's not based in authentic true good for the character development of myself and those around me... I admit facing a path forward for myself even in the many years that I've invested in actively recovering from the portions addictions and maladaptive behaviors... This is great work that is being spoke of... And I will not falsely become humble to the point of self-deprecation or some sort of a victim pity blame complex... Seek legitimate responsibilities without overcorrecting either... One day one lifetime

Thanks for creating this amazing and fantastic project, Jeff.
This is the one thing I'm certain that I've learned here: there's far more to the "paranormal" than I
could ever have imagined while reading Colin Wilson's great book THE OCCULT decades ago. Again, thanks.

To assume that someone is to blame for their situation partially or completely and even worse to say one is creating ones own reality shallow and is also unwise and illogical. Besides the fact that there's other factors, people will see that they cannot or should not trust such a person who would assume and blame as such especially when saying that no one / anything else had anything to do with an outcome except for that person in a / the situation. Your right man... there is a point where what seems to be positive actually really isn't. Balance really is key.

Positive thought + feeling positive, feeling has to match the thought to create an effect. Just thinking I feel wealthy and in reality feeling poor and fearful will attract what you feel....

Interesting that the take home at the end of this episode is to "clean ones house." That seems to be s great underlying psychological tenet. One of our most popular Canadians today, Mr Jordan Peterson, a professor of psychology, has said who knows how many times that we all need to "clean our room!"

Very astute observations. Brings to mind an interesting thought experiment. If you had a few operators with RV and PK skills and planned a concerted event to systematically place intentions into, for example, a target narcissistic personality, presuming that the effort would be successful, what do you think those operators would agree on as the most constructive, survival oriented "reprogramming" that they could plant into that personality? Your reference to 'cleaning house' becomes a primary consideration as a rule. Do no harm. Then, attention would turn towards the subjectivity of what 'good replacement programming' would actually be. This would be difficult, unless there was a clearly defined intention on the part of the target subject to do harm, regardless of his personal justification. He may not see his intentions as harmful, or he may simply not care. How does this group judge the ethical and moral boundaries, beyond which results may be undefined? I think this is the PK dilemma. Early successes in PK can be personally shocking. With practice, reflection, giving yourself permission, and understanding your intentions and the consequences, the shock wears off, and is replaced by the understanding that we must assume the full responsibility for effects caused. The challenge of arriving at an acceptable plan among a small group of operators, on a moral/ethical basis, would be significant. It is insufficient to say 'I don't like his attitude' or his predisposition toward lying. I think you need to first determine the exact maleficent intention on the part of the target, that will lead to a regrettable history if left unchecked. The operators would need to assess satisfactorily, what is the effect, event or history that would be averted as a result of those intentions. Once that is identified, the operators need to agree on the plan and limits. Presuming the most honorable intentions on the part of the operators, could they agree on the thing that needs to change and could they agree on a remediation plan that would be safe and free from unintended consequences?
