Summer heat is making a lot of us sleepy, so learn how to make this easy cold brew coffee (recipe below) to power through your day and still stay cool. Cold brew coffee can be easily made in a mason jar in your very own kitchen — no need for a coffee maker or french press. Plus we'll show you how to make espresso shot ice cubes when you really need that extra kick of energy.

***
Prep time: 5 minutes
Brew time: 12-24 hours

Instructions:

Grind 1 - 1.5 cups of ground dark roasted coffee beans (coarse ground).

Put the 1-1.5 cups of ground coffee beans in the mason jar.

Fill 32 oz. mason jar half way with water (cold or room temperature water, - just don’t want it to be hot), and stir well.

Fill up the rest of the mason jar with water and stir again.

Put the mason jar in the refrigerator.

Let it sit for 12-24 hours (I’ve heard 16 hours is the sweet spot!)
Strain the ground coffee through a mess strainer and a coffee filter.

Pour yourself a fresh glass of cold brew with some vanilla oat milk, or milk of your choice!

For the espresso shot ice cubes, make sure to use a silicone ice cube tray, and measure out the amount that fits into each cube.
(1 shot of espresso is one ounce, and a double shot is two fluid ounces).

I used Doritos instead of coffee beans. Didn't provide a very good caffeine kick but it had a southwestern kick instead. I think it would work better as a consomme than a drink.

i don't know the weight of what she used, but i normally do 10 parts water to 1 part grounds, by weight. so 2000g of water to 200g of grounds. i think that's close to 4 to 1 water to grounds, by volume (so 4 cups of water to 1 cup of grounds).
when that's strained out, you can combine it with equal parts water or milk, and have something that's as strong as most regular coffee.

Do you have to ground your own beans ? Or can I just buy coffee already grounded ?

Can’t I just wrap a mason jar top with a coffee filter and pour that way?
