Hot take, Luke was the decoy. They left the boy on Anakin's home planet with his name while Leia was a princess. She got connections, education, a supportive environment and a safe way to develop leadership skills. They wanted Padme's daughter to fix the republic and Anakin's son to clear the way.

Real reason: she wasn’t his daughter at the time. Same reason Luke was sucking on her tongue.😂

In the Death Star novel, it's shown how Vader is constantly suppressing any thoughts of his former life to avoid pain and distraction. I believe one passage of Vader's inner monologue has him vaguely think, "The Princess was strong-willed and smart, like few females he had met. She nearly reminded him of – but he would not allow that train of thought..."

There's a fanon theory that Yoda was shielding her. He masked her presence in the force and essentially concealed her. Some think it ironic as it was basically the same trick Palpatine used to mask his own connection to The Dark Side from The Jedi High Council until it was too late. It's possible that Obi-Wan learned the same masking techniques as that would have explained why neither Palpatine nor Vader sensed Leia until Luke inadvertently revealed that she existed to Vader, and by extension, to Darth Sidious

I remember somebody made a post about Rogue One, about how they get why Vader doesn't recognize Leia through the force, because 5 minutes before they meet he saw the death star plans leave on her ship and had the audacity to lie to his face. Making him so blinded by rage that even if the force was sending him paternity results he couldn't sense it. And I think about that post every time I watch RO & ANH because it was too damn funny to forget. -but the real reason was it wasn't written into the story yet-

The real reason Vader couldn’t sense another Force-sensitive person right in front of him is that Leia had taken occlumency lessons from Snape.

Vader asking Leia the age old question as the Mind Probe began its work: Who's your daddy, and what does he do?

Obviously the prequels werent made at the time, but it would be cool if Vader had said that she reminded him of someone he once knew (Padme)

Vader does pick up on her force sensitivity. He even mentions to Tarkin in the novelization that breaking her will be very difficult {turns out unsuccessful entirely.}

He just has no reason to suspect that she's related to him at the time.

Once again, Anakin let's his emotions cloud his judgement. Vader was so preoccupied with recovering the stolen plans from rebels, wallowing in his rage, he couldn't see what was right in front if his faceplate.

Since preconceived notions can have a strong influence, it makes sense that Vader was making decisions based on the ISB’s files on her, which he surely would have had clearance for.

If only Vader had kept the Noghri instead of gifting them to Thrawn. They could tell by scent and even called her the Lady Vader when she spoke to them and convinced them to turn on the Imperial Remnant.

simple, at that time vader was a minor character and was not luke's father, and Leia did not become Luke's sister until return of the Jedi. all of that retconning leaves gaps

Because Lucas wrote SW, but Lawrence Kasdan wrote Empire. Kasdan came up with the idea of Vader being Luke's father, it's soap opera drama 101.😂
