5 Things NOT to do in Hawaii from a Local Perspective - Must see before you go!

Aloha! Here are 5 things not to do when visiting Hawaii. I'm sharing this from a Local/Hawaiian Perspective. I want to make sure you don't do these 5 things because these are Federal and State Laws, things dear to the Hawaiian culture, and to make sure you're safe and have the best trip when visiting Hawai!

I’m always more than happy to reply. But, that’s only if you liked this video and subscribed ☺

Here are the 5 things not to do in Hawaii:

1) Do not touch or get close to the Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles and Hawaiian Monk Seals.

Report any of these violations to NOAA Enforcement Hotline
(1-800-853-1964) or the Department of Land and Natural Resources (808-643-3567). Taking a photo of the person in violation helps too.

2) Do not hike when it's rainy

3) Do not litter or leave your trash behind

Seriously, 😠 look how beautiful these islands are. Please keep it trash-free so it can look beautiful for this generation, and generations to come! ⛰

4) Do not underestimate the ocean 🌊

Mother nature is tougher than us all. Check the weather that day, go with a friend, and ask a lifeguard what they would recommend for your experience level. And.. don't turn your back on the ocean for pics! IG likes is not worth being swept away by the waves!

5) Do not leave your valuables in your car or on the beach!

Although Hawaii is paradise, we have thieves that steal. Thieves understand that people park and leave their cars unattended for hours when doing long hikes. Keep your valuables out of sight, and just bring what's necessary. Don't leave any valuables on the beach when you jump in the water. Your valuables may not be there when you come out of the water 🏖

Thank you for posting this! As a frequent visitor visiting family in Hawaii for years, this information shared is VERY IMPORTANT. I don’t hesitate to check anyone disrespecting the islands, nor her inhabitants sea life or human life. VISITORS also need to practice Aloha. Visitors wouldn’t want other visitors disrespecting their home. Just like you said Sean, you want to preserve the beauty of the islands for generations. Much Aloha and Mahalo!

Fully agree! These things all make perfect sense and are basic... and every time we've been in Hawaii we've seen so many people NOT doing them! I also agree with adding the rule below - respect others hiking in the area, as well as animals and birds, and keep voices and music volume down! When you are welcomed to someone else's house/land show respect and appreciation. If you do this in Hawaii it is my experience that you'll get abundant friendly respect in return!

Yes sir. I am here (Oahu) for the first time. Visited Kauai many years ago and learned all of these things.

The main thing that resonates with me is the power of the ocean. I unfortunately injured myself running a few weeks ago and my achilles is messed up still. Its been hard and very sad but I won't even step foot in the water right now while hurt. I was watching the local kids get pounded in the shore break on Sandy Beach a few days ago. Next time I am out here and not injured - I cannot wait to get in the water.

The steep shorelines, currents, and waves are unbelievably dangerous here. There's a reason so many of the locals are in such great shape. Gotta be tough in Hawaii.

Awesome tips...especially appreciated about not leaving valuables visible in the car, keeping an eye on your tripod even if you're close by (I'm sorry that happened to you with your tripod), and not turning your back to the ocean- just to get that shot!! Thank You!!

YES SERIOUSLY! I don't want anyone to touch me either when I'm laying on the beach... Makes perfect sense to leave the monk seals and green sea turtles alone. Thanks, Hawaiiantraveler! 😊
