Holes was actually the first literature class assignment, where I got a decent grade in and a "good job" note from my teacher. Our job was to read the book, then watch the movie, and write a short synopsis of them. Practised skill being writing efficiently, over lenght. I'm not sure what happened, but something in the onion scene... just made everything click in my head. I was so proud of that paper at the time. And it was actually kinda fun.

I have autism and dyslexia, and didn't really learn to read untill age 9-10. So I never found writing assignments enjoyable. Mostly frustrating and confusing how "anyone could find it fullfilling". That class was some time in 2014-2016. I don't have a copy of or memory what I wrote in the assignment. However, the book and movie somehow helped me find the start of storytelling as a hobbyists horror writer.
