Alex is a certified DaVinci Resolve trainer and video producer with a mission to simplify and reduce the learning curve of producing fantastic video content. Alex has been in filmmaking for over 14 years and, in 2016, set up his company, Depiqd (said Dee-PikT), which initially focused on traditional video production.

Now, whilst Depiqd still offers video production services to our clients today, the focus is on reaching and helping as many people as possible to get started using video and make the process of learning enjoyable, stress-free and efficient without it costing a fortune.

Whether you have personal or business-driven goals, video is so powerful and can reach people in many ways that other forms of media can. However, it can be laborious, complicated, and expensive, and it takes a long time to become proficient, so often, people give up far too soon.

Snapping is an essential tool. but it should never ever have affected the IRON playhead. The fact that not only this happens but that it cant even be disabled separately is utterly bizarre and the biggest leap of frustration for anyone moving from more expensive editing software. Snapping can already snap clips to other clips. there is no reason whatsoever for the playhead to have to be sandwiched in between.

If you zoom all the way in and have "snapping off", moving a clip still snaps the track from tick point to tick point. I want to micro-move an audio track to sync it to a slate marker on a video track. I don't have SMPTE options available with my video or audio recording devices.

OMG... Temporary Snapping. Genius!! Thank you for sharing 👍

Thanks! Very helpful. However, what I was hoping to find out was, if there's a way to set the snapping to some arbitrary grid... ? That would be helpful in some circumstances.

I'm having a snapping issue even when the magnetic timeline is off. I'm trying to line a clip up to the beat of the song. Even zoomed way in, the clip snaps to the top lines above in the timeline. The clip either is too short of the beat or past it. How do we make these fine adjustments?

Very handy tip, thanks! I mostly have snapping on and would click on the icon to turn it off when trying to be precise. Being able to temporarily disable it will save so much time.

This video typifies a good Davinci Resolve tutorial video. That is, a simple, well explained way to get around some idiotic default setting in Davinci Resolve. I don't need even understand the point of snapping the play had in this context, but thanks for showing me how to stop it. 😅

Both. Sometimes I want to find the end or start of a section, sometimes I want more detail.
I forgot to consider the keyboard shortcut. That will help!

Don’t you have a comprehensive course on DaVinci Resolve 18; the one you have shared in your description is for DaVinci Resolve 17

I'm wanting to use snapping in the keyframes panel of fusion and can't figure out how. Regardless, thanks for this video. I learned that while dragging I can temporarily disable snapping with the hotkey. 👍

Yeah the playhead still snaps either before or after the end of my clip in the Edit page, with seemingly no way to get it to the in-between.
Coming from Nuke + AE there's just so many fundamental small issues that are really making this software an absolute pain in the arse to use.
