I cannot tell you how much a love these “how system “X” was hacked” series. They are simply amazing.

The modded vita is a must have. Seriously the library alone is staggering, and with backwards compatible with psp and ps1 together with emulation capabilities, its a beast in the hands.

One of the major contributors I think to the demise of PlayStation Mobile was also the fact that people were eventually able to root most Xperia Play phones and reverse engineer the PS1 game conversion process, making them able to convert near any title to a XPlay compatible title.

0:26 Clarification on this one: While Sony kept digital stores alive, PS Vita developers weren't allowed to publish and update games until July 20th. Some developers were able to push updates after July but still, games couldn't be published anymore.

There were some physical releases that were sold after July through PlayAsia store however those releases had only few thousand copies and sold out in a blink of an eye.

Thanks to HENkaku, my Vita stopped being a dust magnet in 2016. I love using it for emulation. The OLED makes the classics look stunning.

Even though there’s a lot of impressive people to thank for the continued life of the PS Vita, one of the most overlooked is a Sony corpo by the name of Shahid Ahmad. After Sony and major publishers gave up on the Vita, Ahmad took advantage of this apathy to turn the Vita into what he dubbed a “portable Steam machine” which stretched the Vita’s lifespan by a few more years. Ahmad focused on attracting indie devs to port and make games for the Vita and turned it into what Steam is to PCs. Nintendo would take these lessons to greater success with the Switch. IGN wrote an article about him in 2021 that brought this to light and it’s impressive when passionate people with vision get up in the ranks and manage to do something cool.

The Vita is amazing. Sony may have given up on it, but the community has taken it to their hearts and thank God they did.

There are 2 era's in the PS Vita modding community. The Beginning, and TheFl0w

"Sony did their homework by integrating everything into the SoC" Just looking at the industry at large, integration was just a natural progression in the chip production, mostly for cost cutting and speeding up transfer rates. security is just a "happy side effect", i would argue it wasn't their primary goal....

I am saddened the thumbnail did not say 'Mistakes were Made'

I really love the Vita and it is such an overpowered beast given when it got released. Sadly Sony was too cocky about it and ruined what could have been a great device with their stupid expensive memory cards. Downloadable games but no space to store those because people don't buy those cards...they really shot themselves in the foot there. Just look at the amazing library the PSP has and then the games the Vita has to offer...heck Ridge Racer 2 on the PSP is the BEST Ridge Racer and then look at the sh1t Ridge Racer on the Vita- the graphics are nice though.

A modded vita is genuinely the greatest handheld console of all time and it’s not even close

Are you saying that “mistakes were made”

The amount of effort the community puts into keeping these old systems alive astounds me, long may it continue.

The vita still is one of my favorite consoles to this day. Despite how basically nobody I talk to knows what it is, and the library was pretty small comparatively speaking, it still has an amazing homebrew community and a few really solid titles. I really wish Sony put more marketing/emphasis in the vita as it could have been up there with the 3ds. I remember back in aug 2016 when the vita was hacked and I didn't believe it at first, but I tried it and it worked, never went back since. really interesting video as always!

Really one of the best homebrew scenes around. I remember the PSP being a great time back when I was a kid, playing PSPcraft and NZP, but the Vita just feels like it was built to be community driven. Having all my homebrew set up with proper livearea bubbles is so satisfying

I remember having a lot of fun on the psp scene back in the day. When it was discovered how Sony protected their newer 5.55 and onward releases, by having them check for a newer system modules that were not present on a CFW's (5.00m33 and 5.50 gen at the time) And then with the 6.20 permanent hack for the "unflashable" psp's. I never paid Vita attention as i moved to other things at the time, but it sounds like it had a very fun history of it's own. Maybe i'll try to snatch one on the second hand market one day, just to see what it can do. Cheers and thanks for the content mate

I loved the vita ever since it released. A friend of mine gave me a 1000 model last year and a week later I did the installation for henkaku then downgraded the firmware to 3.60 to have it permanently hacked. I just love the support that it has for homebrew and emulators. I've been waiting for this video for a long time and I loved hearing the history of the exploits for the vita.
