Fun fact: Kent Hovind once said in one of his videos that hyenas are part of the dog kind. Considering the fact that hyenas are genetically more closely related to cats than to dogs, makes you wonder how big the dog kind is. Strange he won't include bears in there though.

"Making shit up." Kind of sums up the whole John and Jane series, doesn't it?

One day Linnaeus encountered a problem in the shape of a strange plant. It was almost identical to common toadflax, Linaria vulgaris, but it had a differently built flower. For this reason it had to go to another class than the common toadflax in the sexual system. He called the plant Peloria, which is Latin for monster.

Since Peloria did not fit into the sexual system Linnaeus tried to find a solution to the problem. In the end he had to approach the thought that the odd plant might be an example of a species that had originated from nature. When he wrote about this he immediately received a letter from a clergyman who warned him for such a dangerous thought. This happened more than 100 years before Darwin presented his ideas about the origin of species.

Linnaeus never wrote about his thoughts again but planted Peloria by the doorstep to his summerhouse in Hammarby. There he could sit in the summer evenings, smoke his pipe and meditate over this strange monster in God's creation.

Some brain-dead entertainment mixed with some education. Despite being an atheist, I still like watching these AronRa videos because I always learn from them. Sometimes I learn something new in science, that I did not know. And I am reminded to what depths religion will go, to mislead children.

I know Aron kind of warned us about John always knowing more than Jane, but I was not prepared for how patronizing him suggesting the most basic of makeup organizing systems to Jane like she'd never thought of it before would be. I get that it was just to illustrate their (terrible) argument but still that was worse than I expected even for them.

When they can’t teach it, they preach it. That’s why they think disproving evolution, which they haven’t, will somehow assume the truth of creation, which it doesn’t.

I love that Linnaeus was motivated purely by the search of knowledge, pushing past his own biases of his religious background and reporting his findings with open honesty that his beliefs don't seem to line up with reality. That takes a certain kind of man, and even though he was incredibly backwards when it came to race, it still think he did an excellent job for his time.

for me what's worse for the flood myth is the koala, it only eats eucalyptus leaves (and is a fussy eater, so Queensland koalas only eat eucalyptus leaves specific to their region, Victorian koalas only eat eucalyptus leaves specific to their region etc), both of which only grow in Australia (the koala and eucalyptus trees), so Noah apparently imported a year's worth of eucalyptus leaves (and knew which type to import and had the ability to store them somehow without it all spoiling) from Australia (a place he had no knowledge of).
The 2 koalas travelled to the middle east, starving all the way (as no eucalyptus trees grow along the way) from Australia, and then back again after the flood, again starving all the way back.
What's worse is when they get back to Australia all the eucalyptus trees have died because they have been underwater for a year. So the koalas have to starve for a decade or so while the eucalyptus trees
