A 12th grade student here

To my juniors, Do not make marks your everything. It is good to be consistent but do not neglect yourself. Because 10th is the last year that you'd genuinely be happy. I don't want to scare anyone but this is truth, your world turns over after you go to class 11.
Do not encourage passive learning (reading and highlighting)
Participate in discussion and debate about the topics you're learning with your classmates, discuss with your teachers. Pay attention to class, solve questions even if you do not know much about what's the topic... Make mistakes, learn from them, because one can learn more effectively from humiliation.
You do not have to do well in class tests but make sure you check on where you did wrong, and ask the teacher or any of your friends for the solution. You might have noticed that you remember things well if you have an embarassing event to relate to it. Just as this sweet person said, you do not have to study 24/7
Give yourself time, enjoy more, be consistent. Trust me, it doesn't take much to score 80+% in 10th (coming from person who didn't study at all before the boards exams and still managed to cover 86% . Not a percentage to be proud of in Indian household but my life was really nice and carefree and I regret not living it to the fullest because I kept disappointing my parents with my marks and that resulted in declining mental health too. I was also lucky enough to get really good teachers. Their explanations were clear and enough for me to score that much )

Also. Learn for yourself, not for marks. You might get burnt out and that shit is not pleasant. 10th result never mattered. They say it is necessary for jobs and stuffs but it isn't. Experience matters, Confidence matter. Engage yourself more in extracurricular activities, learn new skills. Make full use of your potential because you won't be able to after 10. If you try + if you live in a healthy environment then you won't have to go through what most of us had to and I really hope that no one have to go through that depressing shit anymore.

Sorry for the long comment but do not make marks your everything. Do it because you enjoy it. You'd see you're performing better because no one can hold you down. A person can reach beyond unknown bounds and surprise the world. Do not let anything trivial as marks or humiliation from peers and peer pressure snatch away the potential from you ! Let your curiosity run wild

-from, a grade 12 student who failed to live up to her own expectations

Edit : Passive learning was explained better in comment section... I do agree with people who said that reading is good, from my experience, I remember the best when I make an image of what I'm reading... May not be the same for others so yea, find what suits you the best ! All that matters is you're coming to like the process !

Edit 2 : The way I wrote this comment have confused some but thanks to the replies my points came across even though I failed to explain some of my points miserably. So thanks for taking your time to explain !
You might as well want to read the replies explaining some of the points I failed to

Also, I sound like some wise orator despite being the idiot I am,
But take the time to experiment what suits you the best ! But I'd definitely encourage you to be engaged in extracurricular activity and learn skills that might help you in the long run (I'm guilty of doing that without studying ;P)

As a 10th grader I'd say :
Do maths and phy regularly
Don't neglect languages ( they are scoring subjects )
Learn diagrams in bio !
Practice India map
Solve previous years question papers ( It helps me a lot as i get to know the imp topics and my weakness)
Keep doing mcqs often !
Watch video lectures especially for Chemistry
Read read & read ! not just from your tb but also from study materials
Improve your vocabulary! and keep doing different quizzes in English and pls don't take English sub for granted!
Read read & read !
Most important- don't just study 24/7 pls ‼️ have fun with your friends and family, take necessary breaks & have fun too ! don't overwork yourself and don't stress‼️ you've got this 😼

People are telling some normal tips so here are some of the deeper ones which I learned this year (class 10th student)
1. You would be seriously confused if you should be working hard for your future or should be living your life and trust me it should be balanced.. Don't miss out on life too much but don't neglect hard work as well do your best don't worry about marks
2. Don't connect very deeply with someone both in friendship or romantically.. Life starts from 11th then you get to know who really is there don't make very deep attachments with someone before that
3. You'll realise your life is passing way too fast and you'll feel like you are too slow in comparison to process everything but trust me it's completely normal give yourself some time
4. Set your priorities.. And do it wisely

Tips covered here:
Tip 1) Don't give away your grade 9 book
Tip 2) Don't make a timetable which is not realistic
Tip 3) no need to study 24x7

You are truly right . In my case -
My board exam of 10th grade just finish in the middle of march and I can say without any hesitation that I did very well than what I was expecting . ( I'm still waiting for my result though ) Before that when I had test exam, I didn't do much well because of the less time I got for revising the subjects ( It was especially because of unbearable school projects & exhausting online classes .) My math's test's result was the worst and you won't believe but I cried everynight silantly, crazily in the middle of night without anyone knowing, only because of my result . But then one day I was listening to BTS's "We Are Bulletproof : The Eternal" ( Imma an ARMY 💜 ) . While listening to it I remembered how much they worked hard to be where they are now . "If my idols can do this much to pursue their dreams then why can't I ?" I asked myself . At that time I was scrolling through the auto play section while looking at other videos and found Smyang Piano . From the next morning I feel like a new beginning . After refreshing myself and make a routine for studying . But unfortunately it didn't worked in my case . Then I sat on the bed, plugged the earphone in my ears, played smyang bts study playlist and started my journey . I couldn't believed but I covered the whole huge syllabus only in 1 and 1/2 week !!!!
And you know what subject I did the most well in madhyamik ( board exam ) ? It's MATH !!!
Sometimes I would stay awake till 2am since I am an night owl type person but the one week before my exams I stopped doing that cause it would have trouble my health several times after test exams because of lot of pressure & depression .
So don't forget to take care of your health and cheer up yourself sometimes . Don't give up easily cause you have a long colourfull journey ahead of you . 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Edit : Sorry for the looong comment 😅
Hope you would read it .

As a 12th grader, I would just like to say that 9th nd 10th graders should genuinely enjoy their life and not take much pressure. Study enough to understand the concepts and get decent marks in boards. But 10 th is a time you can have loads of fun and should as well.

Not to scare off anyone but life will take a turn for the worse once you get in 11th. School will not stop existing as a nuisance but a lot of added responsibilities will be added to your load as you will need to prepare for competitive exams to get into college(as most colleges have their own private exams and board marks remain of near to no value to them)

Enjoy your 10th its prolly the final year you'll get where you won't feel like an adult hustling in life

After Term 1 I realised:
1. After completing a chapter (mainly of science and maths) I do not revise/practice it. You should revise that Chapter every week or if possible then every third day..
2. I do not focus on maps and diagrams. Understanding them is damn important.
3. In the starting months, if you didn't start a chapter but teacher had already started then try to understand what he/she is teaching so that you get a small overview of that chapter and when you start that chapter by ourself then it will be easy for you as you know many things already about that chapter.
4. Always try to figure out what teacher will teach tomorrow, like teaching is teaching a chapter then what part of that chapter he/she will teach your class tomorrow. And when you figured it out, Just read and understand that part so that when teacher teaches it you get revised and you can ask doubts which you didn't understand yesterday.
5. Never ever be ashamed for asking doubts even when you had a silly doubt. Because some doubts we had but we forget it and that doubt can come in mind again when your exams are coming..
6. Always get a refreshment break after studying for hours. A break when you can watch TV with family or being alone and talking to yourself or spending time with Nature.

God Bless you

The only thing I advice is to listen to your teacher, and pay attention to what they teach in the class, do not get too distracted just because the topic is boring, I mean it's obvious we all find certain chapters boring and leave them to study later but please don't commit this mistake, I suggest you to give them a little more time than you do to other chapters

And don't stress too much, 10th will pass easily too lol
I know your relatives may keep bugging you with their advices and taunts but don't let them distract you

And remember to take care of your health, do what you love, give time to yourself, 10th is not as scary as some people tell you 😭
I wish all the best to my juniors :D you all will do well :D

A tenth grader right here!

To the juniors... If u're going to start your academic year of 10th standard plz DON'T FREAK OUT!
This is the worst thing u could do at the start of a new academic year...
I remember in the first week of 10th grade last year, only in online classes the teachers were scaring so I still wonder what would they do if we had offline classes! 🤯
So I remember it was just second or third day, after the classes I was so stressed and tensed that I ended up crying in the darkness of my room and in the afternoon when I was going to my recently joined coaching (which also didn't helped me at all) my mom noticed that I was not looking well but I just ignored it and went to take classes but after coming back that's it I had a fever! then I realized that it was not a good thing to get that much stressed just becuz the teachers are scaring us BECUZ THAT DIDN'T HELPED ME AT ALL rather MADE ME END UP WITH A FEVER OUT OF STRESS!
So here are some advice:
(I'll keep them short)
1) U must have seen everyone saying in the comment section to be consistent with your studies... So being consistent doesn't means to expect yourself to study 24/7 that's such an unrealistic thing. By being consistent it means keep revising and ask yourself questions to know your knowledge about the topic.
2) DON'T PROCASTINATE... If u're feeling lost its ok to take a break and then start over becuz then from here is the beginning of a fresh start. But CONSISTENTLY PROCASTINATING WILL NOT HELP, IT JUST RUINS U, becuz at that point u think “I'll study later it's just the start", it'll just leave u with whole syllabus when the exams are near and if u're doing that to yourself u're literally trynna kill yourself!
So just be consistent with your studies don't freak out...
3) I guess this is one of the most important tip for self-esteem,
NEVER COMPARE YOURSELF WITH ANYBODY be it a topper or your friend becuz at this point u're literally disrespecting yourself and your hardwork. Your basis of improvement should be you only, to beat your own limitations not someone else's.
4) And lastly if u have any hobby don't leave it just becuz your teachers or people around u say if u dont study u're gonna regret and blah blah blah
THAT'S TOTAL SHIT, becuz being consistent with studies and your hobbies too will help u alot to minimise your stress and being positive!

Lastly stay positive, becuz if u're positive u're gonna find a way to your goal! 🤗💜🍀
I didn't realized while typing I literally jotted a whole essay! Well that shows how much I have to say!
Ok whatever Best of luck if u have reached here and read the whole essay 😅😂....
