The one year refresh is a good idea for beginners, a lot can happen.

I have exactly the same issue after a crush. I have bought the cable from ebay for 13$ and waiting to arrive so I can replace it. The thing is, you need to be careful if you open it on your own but I guess it is fixable - there are lots of videos with repairing cables - it is only a matter of doing it yourself with much less money or paying more just for them to do that. Thats it basically.

I crashed my mini 2 se and it said there was a problem with the gps/imu. Would that cost more or less than your repair? Thanks

I crashed my mini 2 and the plastic arms holding the gimbal are broken. Can the plastic arms only be replaced?

I fix drones and you definitely got scammed the cable that broke is worth 10-20 max.
